I started orthodontic treatment in 8th grade and finished in the winter vacation of 11th grade. For reference, I’m a high school senior now hehe. I have a small mouth, so my baby teeth came in very neatly, but once my permanent teeth started coming in, my teeth became crooked and I ended up with protruding mouth. Honestly, I didn’t really think much of it (I was really young back then lol), but my mom and my mom’s friends all said I probably needed braces, so I got orthodontic treatment. Since 4th grade, I had visited several orthodontic clinics for consultations, and every one of them said I would need extraction orthodontics, so they thought it would be better to come in during middle school. So I picked the clinic in advance, went back in 8th grade, and started treatment! I had 4 teeth extracted in total, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. For reference, when getting teeth extracted, they first remove all the teeth on one side, and for the next 2 weeks I only chewed food on the opposite side. Extractions don’t hurt at all. They numb everything anyway. Um... I don’t remember clearly now, but I think I went through every single step involved in orthodontic treatment. I had screws placed in my gums, wore elastics, wore orthodontic rubber bands... It was really uncomfortable back then, but once it was over, I don’t remember the exact sensation anymore lololol. For reference, I didn’t use any clear aligner-type thing and did everything with metal wires. Clear ones are much more expensive anyway, and even with clear ones you can still tell you’re getting braces, so I just went with metal wires. In the end, I’m extremely satisfied with my orthodontic treatment, and if there’s anyone hesitating about braces, I hope you do it as soon as possible instead of spending time hesitating. Most people browsing this site and worrying about orthodontics are probably adults, so I feel like dragging it out any longer would just be a lossㅠㅠ After braces, my protruding mouth, which was my complex, improved a lot, and now I can confidently take side-profile photos too. Lastly, if the dentist told you to get extraction orthodontics, don’t overthink it and just extract the teeth. I know so many friends who had braces, and among the ones who ignored the doctor and didn’t extract, none of them got good results. Their mouth shape stayed the same, and both they and their friends’ parents regretted it so much... I’m not really sure whether extraction orthodontics has side effects? Maybe because my braces came off not that long ago compared to other people..? Anyway, neither I nor my friends who had braces have had any side effects at all. Some people don’t wear their retainers when sleeping at night and their teeth move back again lol, but that’s something you can prevent if you manage things properly. Everyone, find a good clinic and become prettier~!!!
