6-month review of splint jaw correction

This is a review of jaw correction for treatment purposes, not for cosmetic reasons!

At first I visited to get orthodontic treatment, but the director, who specializes in jaw correction, said my jaw had shifted far back and offered to take an X-ray for free, so I did. Even I could see that my upper and lower jaws really didn’t match. No wonder my jaw had been hurting so much every time I chewed meat over the past few years... I hesitated because I’d heard that correcting it can make the face look longer, but I was told that if I kept this condition, orthodontic treatment would be meaningless and it would only get worse, so I decided to go ahead. After I decided, I looked it up and found out the place was famous for jaw correction, so I was quietly relieved that I didn’t seem to have been ripped off(?)

At the very beginning, I had an MRI taken in the normal position / with something in my mouth / with my mouth open, had my dental structure molded, and got fitted for a splint. Seeing the MRI, not only the director but also other doctors and a dental hygienist(?) downstairs were called over to look at it one by one and give their opinions before explaining everything, and that made me feel very reassured. The cost was 200 at first, plus 30,000 won at each visit. Since it was a fee per visit rather than a monthly fee, and considering it was a splint that usually costs 80 to 120, it seemed quite expensive, but looking back now, it seems like a reasonable price since it included the extra splints and various other treatment fees too.

The treatment was to visit once every 2 weeks to 1 month to check my jaw condition, and they would shave and adjust the splint while reflecting changes in my body balance. They also taught me some kind of exercise method(?) and massage method, and gave me some herbal extract(?) to take, which did make it feel a little suspicious, but there was no extra charge... It wasn’t anything harmful to the body, so I just thought of it as getting closer to the director and did it. I just followed what they told me, lol, and it really did get better a bit. I’m not sure whether it actually worked.

Every 3 to 4 months they made a new splint, and I just got my third one. Comparing the before-and-after photos, my jaw has gotten a little longer and moved forward, so aesthetically I’m a tiny bit unhappy, but honestly, if I were going to nitpick aesthetics that much, losing some weight would probably come first. More than anything, it hurts less when I eat, and the headaches I used to get occasionally are gone, which is what I’m most happy about.

From two months from now, I’ll be doing it together with orthodontic treatment, and I’ll write a separate review about the orthodontic treatment later.
