The doctor told me not to talk too much, so I’m leaving a record. I hope this helps. First, for my initial surgery, they shaved down the bridge hump, inserted 3.5 mm silicone, used ear cartilage at the tip, and placed a septal extension graft. My nose felt very stiff and uncomfortable, but I just thought, well, that’s probably how it is, and lived with it. Until 8 months in. The reason I had it removed was that, from time to time, the bridge would turn red and itch. Even when it didn’t itch, it would still get red. I never got a nosebleed once, but then suddenly I started getting nosebleeds every two months, which was scary. Right before a nosebleed, the spot where the nasal bone was attached would also throb for a moment! By month 8, the redness had spread all the way to the tip. I thought, I should get this removed, and I visited clinics around Apgujeong, looking only at the well-known top three. The shape was too flashy, so my nose barely showed up on my face. The columella was also lowered too much, so people said it looked like a beak nose. For those 8 months, I didn’t drink or smoke at all. But they said this is inflammation. When we think of inflammation, we imagine swelling, redness, warmth, pain, tenderness, and so on, but if you have those atypical signs, there is a very high chance contracture will occur 1 to 2 years later... Among the two places I chose, this one was more expensive, but at the other place they said they could remove it perfectly without an open procedure. Here, they said that unless they did it open, they couldn’t remove everything cleanly. If they left the capsule in and didn’t do it open, they said my nose would collapse later and I’d have to come back to the hospital again... Haha. I was drawn in by how honestly they spoke, so I chose this place even though it was 1 million won more expensive. They removed the bridge silicone, smoothed out the area around the hump, and removed the support graft. My original nose had a bridge, but the tip was completely pressed down like Squidward’s nose. So for the tip, they decided to redo it with cartilage rearrangement, cartilage tying, and reused ear cartilage to raise it a little. When I had my first surgery, all the patients sat on massage-chair-like seats to recover, but here they give you a private room... with a fluffy blanket and a bed... My mom even lay down there waiting. In plastic surgery clinics, the consultation area is usually very large and the operating rooms are small and numerous, but here it’s the opposite. The consultation room is small and the operating rooms are large. The director and the head doctor were very meticulous and kind. The medical staff in the operating room were kind too, not just mechanically brisk. They said the tip had been uncomfortable because they harvested a lot of ear cartilage, split it into one piece, and inserted it into the tip. But since there was plenty of material to reuse, they refined it, raised the tip, and packed some into the bridge as well... I wrote this from what I remember, and I’ll come back again after the splint and packing come off! Don’t be scared, let’s go to the hospital..
