Hello, I’m posting this in hopes it will help. I’ll delete the photos in a few days! (Deleted) My original natural nose had a slight hump and the nasal tip drooped slightly downward. All of a sudden, I got the urge to have hump nose surgery, so around May 2020, I quickly went for consultations at about 5 clinics (outside Seoul), and ended up having surgery at a decent place where many people around me had also gone.
The surgery was osteotomy, slight shaving of the hump, and nasal tip work using septal cartilage (support strut?) At first, I debated countless times whether or not to do the osteotomy, but the doctor said that if I was going to do it, wouldn’t it be better to do it properly, and that it wasn’t a difficult surgery. He even brought out a specialty textbook and explained it so passionately that I decided to do it. In the end, I’m satisfied~~ I think it was a good decision.
For my first surgery, it was 5 minutes of sedation + local anesthesia. Maybe because I can drink alcohol well, my vision just went dark and I felt a bit dizzy, but somehow I could hear all the sounds.. But I felt something kind of stinging, so I think I mumbled, “It hurts, it hurts” lol. And then for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, I had the surgery while listening to the radio, fully awake and fine. I felt all the sensations of grinding, hitting, breaking, and pulling, but respect to myself for getting surgery while fully conscious... At the end, I was even tapping my foot to the radio and keeping rhythm with the song as the surgery finished. That was my first surgery review! And then the long-awaited day the splint came off! When I saw it, the shape seemed natural and I thought it came out well. First of all, the hump had been shaved smoothly! I liked it, but since I only had nasal tip surgery without silicone, I slightly felt like it looked a bit high on my face. From then on.....my sensitivity kicked in lol I didn’t know I was this sensitive lol And because of the nature of septal cartilage, I didn’t know it would be that hard and tight... At first, even making an “O” shape with my mouth to use a straw felt so tight. At week 2, after having the internal stitches removed, I had a consultation with the doctor. When I said I thought it looked a little high, the doctor said that by his aesthetic standards, it wasn’t high at all. . . And I also told him that I could feel something around the bridge of my nose, that particular sensation, but he asked if I could even feel that and suddenly read right through my psychology, saying I seemed very, very, very sensitive! He said, “Judging by your personality, you’ll probably keep worrying about this,” and said lowering the nasal tip cartilage was possible and that he would do the surgery for me. But because of the burden of having to open my nose again, and after reading countless posts online, I thought I had missed the early correction window since it was already week 2, so I told him I would wait about 6 months, and if I still felt the same then, I would come back. Then I left hahaha
After that, 3 months passed.. I was doing fine, but I went for another consultation with a friend... I went and rambled on about how it still seemed high and how it was so uncomfortable~~~ I asked all kinds of things, like whether everything could be removed, whether it would collapse if removed, whether there would be scarring... etc... for over 30 minutes lol The doctor said surgery was possible even now and told me not to believe those internet horror stories so much, saying he had done surgery thousands of times, so I should trust him, not random internet posts... He reassured me haha. The friend who went with me even said my doctor had such an attractive personality and was so confident that she might become his fan lol
Anyway, even then, just in case, I said I’d wait until 6 months and went back again. When I looked in the mirror again, it also seemed pretty.. My mind kept going back and forth. I lived somewhat dulled to it for a few more months~~
Then, at month 10, because my skin is very pale and thin, I felt like the nasal tip was slightly showing through as a round white area. Also, a friend I hadn’t seen in a while asked if I had gotten nose surgery, so I thought, ah, I guess it really is noticeable.. I got fixated on that comment and booked another consultation... The doctor will probably be sick of me haha;;;;;
Maybe because the surgery itself was done very naturally, about half the people knew I had surgery and half didn’t. The full side profile was fine, but from a particular angle that only I noticed (45 degrees), the nose looked like it had been pulled straight forward, and that kept bothering me. More than anything, it was extremely uncomfortable... In the end, I decided to have removal surgery.
The surgery was again done with brief sedation and local anesthesia. Right before surgery, the doctor showed me the photos taken beforehand and repeatedly asked if I had thought it through carefully, and from that moment I started trembling.... The nurses also asked why I wanted to remove it... My hands were shaking so much. I’m very grateful to the nurse who held my hand during anesthesia...
After my first surgery, I said I would never get on the operating table a second time, but in the end, I got on it twice haha....
It’s only day 10, but I’m extremely satisfied with the result... Even during surgery, I said it felt like something was there, and the doctor got angry;;; He said there was nothing there and told me not to be suspicious. After the surgery was over, he told me to look in the mirror and press my nose, and he pressed it firmly, which startled me... Anyway, the surgery ended like that, and since there was no cotton packing in my nose, I had no discomfort at all that day~ Right now, I honestly hope it doesn’t go down any further and that the swelling doesn’t go down either... I’m the type who doesn’t swell much, and I don’t have much scarring on the columella either... More than anything, it’s so, so comfortable... Once that one rod in the middle of my nose was gone, I couldn’t believe how comfortable it felt... I also saw the cartilage that was removed, and it was smaller than I expected. I wondered how that amount could have made me that uncomfortable... (a support strut about the size of one segment of a pinky fingernail and one round piece of cartilage) If I had known I would be this satisfied, I should have done it earlier.. It makes all those countless side-profile photos on my phone and the days of looking in the mirror every day feel pointless;;
I had been half-doubtful of the doctor, who kept saying so confidently that it would not collapse, not to believe internet horror stories, and that such a thing would not, would not, would not happen, but in the end I think I made a very good choice.. If I hadn’t touched the nasal tip from the beginning, this wouldn’t have happened.. but what can I do... It was my choice. If it stays like this for 10 or 20 years without any problems, I’ll have no regretsㅠㅠ On my face, a low nose without a high bridge suits me best!!! That particular sharp protruding feeling from the 45-degree angle is all gone too!!!!! I had my removal done at the same clinic where I had my first surgery, and since the clinic is outside Seoul, it probably won’t be much help. What I want to say is.. it really doesn’t collapse as easily as you might think... Goodbye to the days when I wrote and read posts on Naver Knowledge iN and Naver cafes, worried so much, and couldn’t sleep~~~
