Since I was a student, I disliked my protruding jaw, so I corrected my bite to normal occlusion with orthodontic treatment. But after learning that orthodontics does not change the jawbone structure, I ended up getting two-jaw rotational surgery that returned the occlusion as it was, and my jaw, which had been really large and protruded forward, went in well. As for downsides, the nasolabial angle became larger, so if you have a protruding mouth, the philtrum looks long. Also, philtrum swelling really does not go down easily.
