2. Day of surgery
2.0 Introduction • Surgery date: Morning slot on July 1, 2021
2.1 Diagnosis • Correction of deviated nasal septum + alar reduction + columellar strut (septal cartilage, ear cartilage)
2.2 Consultation details • Consultation fee of 5,000 won incurred • Most details, including the surgical method, were similar to other hospitals • Guardian can watch the CCTV during surgery (using a tablet) • The director was cheerful and kind • Possible expected side effect: septal deviation/curving (within 6 months) • AS period: 1 year (a little disappointing that it wasn’t 2 years)
2.3 Procedure (before entering the operating room) • Arrive at hospital -> put belongings in recovery room -> change clothes -> wash face -> final consultation with doctor
2.4 Procedure (after entering the operating room) • Enter operating room -> blood pressure check -> IV injection (for administering anesthetic) -> nose hair removal (slightly stinging) -> attach ECG measuring device to leg -> make ear-shape support -> clean inside of nose (medication flowed in) -> anesthetic smoothly kicks in
2.5 After surgery • Arrived 09:30 / Operating room 10:30 / Home by 13:00 • 0 hours elapsed: No sensation due to anesthesia. Sleepy • 1 hour elapsed: Overwhelmingly sleepy. Left for home • 2 hours elapsed: After arriving, nasal pain rushed in • 3 hours elapsed: Still no sensation in the ear • 4 hours elapsed: Nose feels like the flesh is torn + a little bleeding continues • 5 hours elapsed: Ear slowly starts hurting (not as painful as the nose)
2.6 Overall opinion • The anesthetic injection is the most painful part, and after that, since it’s sleep anesthesia, there is no sensation • Pain increases over time, but it’s tolerable • Surgical progress coming soon
