In my early 20s, I went hand in hand with my older sister and maternal aunt to B&VIIT and got LASEK. They said they’d give a discount if we went together, so I didn’t look into many places and just went to the clinic my aunt had foundㅇㅇ The surgical outcome at the time was good, and the uncomfortable part was that the dryness was so hard... For several years after surgery, my eyes were so dry that I would wake up crying in my sleep But my sister and aunt said theirs wasn’t that bad.
After a few years, the dryness got somewhat better, and waking up while sleeping definitely decreased..! But it’s not that my eyes aren’t dry. Then after about 10 years, my vision started to decline... (my older sister has had no vision decline at all, and my aunt said hers declined slightly) I started wearing glasses for work or driving... and then ended up wearing them in daily life too, so I decided on reoperation! The clinic suggested trying medication treatment, so I did, but it had no effect
The good thing is that reoperation here is free..!! Actually, I was going to get lens implantation because I was worried my dry eye would get worse, but they said the surgery fee is free, while the lens production cost (about 4 million KRW) would be out of pocket, so after thinking it over, I just decided on LASEK reoperation. (Oh, I was told my corneal thickness wasn’t on the thin side, so it was thick enough for reoperation!) That didn’t exist before, but these days when doing LASEK, there’s something called corneal strengthening? It was around 500,000 KRW, and I only paid extra for that. Everything else, even the medications from the clinic~~~ all of it~~~ completely~~~ free~~~~~
It’s been about 9 months since the reoperation now, and I’m living while managing the dryness with omega-3. Recovery was.... this surgery was a bit hard. Before, I did it with my older sister, so we chatted and stuff, but now I live alone, and recovering in a dark room made me feel a little depressed too. Still, I endured it well and have no regrets.
Back then, I looked up a lot of reoperation reviews, but I don’t think I saw a case like mine... so I wrote this to raise my level too lol. If there’s anyone considering reoperation because of vision decline, I hope this helps.
