Because the orthodontic treatment I had when I was young went wrong, I had severe malocclusion. From the side, instead of having a round, voluminous facial shape, my face looked straight and cliff-like in profile because of a sunken midface and a protruding chin, and I had a really severe complex about it. Every time I saw a side-profile photo, my self-esteem would accumulate -1 point, and eventually I decided to have surgery. I looked into several hospitals, and since it was a major surgery, I thought oral and maxillofacial surgery would be safer and more specialized than plastic surgery. After carefully searching reviews for each hospital, I chose Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery because it is a one-doctor hospital and the director had quite a lot of surgical experience. Honestly, after receiving a consultation at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, I trusted them so much that I felt I did not need to go to other hospitals, so I decided right away on double jaw surgery, square jaw surgery, and chin surgery without consultations elsewhere. On the day of surgery, I went into the operating room around 10:30, and I was told that the surgery finished earlier than expected. The surgery ended around 1 o’clock, and I opened my eyes in the hospital room. At first I felt dazed because of the anesthesia, but as I gradually woke up, pain and stuffiness came rushing in. On the first day after surgery, it was so hard and uncomfortable that I could not even check my phone, so I spent the whole day leaning against the hospital bed with my eyes closed. Until the afternoon of the second day, I still could not get myself together and kept my eyes closed, but they said I needed to start walking, so I tried to move as much as possible, but it was so hard because I could barely breathe. From day 1 through day 5, breathing was the biggest issue. At the one-week visit, I had disinfection done, and from then my nose opened up a little, so light walks became manageable! It was summer and I could not eat, so I felt dizzy, but if I walked slowly and gently, it was doable. After the first visit until before my 2-week visit, I went for walks, went to department stores, went to the movie theater, took baths every day, and focused on reducing swelling Week 2 It was finally the day to remove the stitches, and for me, stitch removal did not hurt at all!! Removing the stitches did not hurt, but when they removed foreign matter with something like a hose in my mouth?.. there was a lot of bleeding and it hurt, so I tensed up for a moment and immediately got extremely dizzy. So I rested for a few minutes while receiving laser treatment, practiced how to put on the wafer elastics, made my next appointment, and came home. I thought removing the stitches would be the end of the hardship, but the wounds inside my mouth had not healed yet, so putting on the elastics was really hard at first…… Still, when I think about the pain of the first week after surgery, I spend each day feeling truly grateful I usually tolerate pain well, so I thought I would get through double jaw surgery well too! But it was much more painful than I expected You really have to stay mentally strong…… Still, I am satisfied as I look at my face losing swelling day by day!! All I can think is that I should have had the surgery even one day earlier when I was younger From the 2-week visit until one month, aside from the discomfort from the elastics when eating and wearing the wafer, my body felt lighter, and it was fun in its own way to find things I could eat, like porridge or cake Watching myself change this much in less than a short month felt amazing.. time really flies. After the one-month visit, I no longer need to wear the wafer, so it is so comfortable I am already forgetting the surgical pain!! Now I can eat much more than just porridge, like rice, fish, snacks that melt in the mouth(?) and so on, so I feel small happiness from things like this..! They said only about half of the swelling has gone down so far, so I hope the rest goes away soon. People are funny I do not even think about how uncomfortable it was right after surgery, and I seem to only be thinking about wanting the swelling to go down quickly
