Hello! A month after double-jaw surgery, daily life has definitely become much more comfortable haha. It has now been one month since I underwent double-jaw surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at [Clinic A]. I am still recovering, but my condition has returned to almost the same as before surgery~! I had struggled with malocclusion and a protruding lower jaw since childhood. I had considered double-jaw surgery, but because it is such a major operation, I was worried about side effects and the financial burden, so I could not decide easily. I also have a sensitive stomach and frequent esophagitis, so I wondered whether being unable to eat properly because of my malocclusion might be affecting me. In particular, my protruding lower jaw in profile bothered me whenever I looked sideways, which caused quite a lot of stress.
Then I happened to get 2–4 weeks of time off, and I wondered whether I would ever have another chance to take such a long break. I felt that if I did not do it this time, I would keep postponing it, so I decided to go ahead before it was too late! Since safety was my top priority for such a major operation, I mainly looked into oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics rather than plastic-surgery clinics. I searched for reviews on online communities and cosmetic-surgery apps and carefully compared before-and-after photos on clinic websites. Among them, I liked Dr. Shin Hee-jin’s results at [Clinic A] because they looked natural and not excessive.
Even so, because it was a major operation, I wanted to decide carefully, so I personally visited about five clinics for consultations. I also liked that [Clinic A] collaborates with an orthodontics department, and I trusted them because they thoroughly explained the surgical process and possible complications. I especially liked that they had safety systems such as operating-room CCTV disclosure and an anesthesiologist on site. Above all, I wanted to improve my protruding lower jaw and malocclusion while keeping a natural facial shape without changing too dramatically. Dr. Shin Hee-jin’s before-and-after photos matched what I was looking for, so I ultimately chose [Clinic A]☺️.
Now it has been one month since my double-jaw surgery! The best thing is that my condition has returned to almost exactly what it was before surgery haha. At first I focused on recovery, but now my physical condition has improved considerably and I am living much more comfortably. I was told that I could gradually start eating from week four, but because I had surgery first and my bite is not aligned yet, I am eating soft tofu or rice mixed into soup. There are still dietary restrictions, but it has only been a month since surgery, and I still need orthodontic treatment, so I am trying not to be impatient. I also had my screws removed in week four, and it was quite painful for a moment when one of them was taken out lol. Still, after that was finished, I felt that I was gradually getting through each stage of postoperative recovery.
The swelling has gone down a lot compared with the beginning! There is still swelling around my nose, philtrum, and jaw, but since it has only been one month, I am looking forward to it decreasing further haha. My chin fat still feels a little awkward, so I hope it settles naturally soon!!! Also, I lost as much as 4 kg compared with before surgery. It was so dramatic that even Mounjaro could step aside, which surprised me too lol. Since my diet has been restricted after surgery, my weight changed, but I will try to get enough nutrition during recovery.
My bite still needs to be adjusted and some residual swelling remains, but since my condition has almost recovered just one month after surgery, I feel that my recovery is progressing well. I hope the swelling decreases further and my facial shape settles naturally haha.
