About 7 years later, the Gore-Tex started to warp. I could feel the cartilage on the side of the nasal tip, and it seemed like it was about to protrude.
I had a nasal tip revision at Bano xx in Seoul. I think it cost around 2.7 million won at the time. The doctor said, “This will probably be your last nose surgery,” so I felt reassured. I was told they slightly shaved the ear cartilage at the nasal tip and overlaid artificial dermis. Right after surgery, I was very satisfied.
Starting one week after surgery, the bridge of my nose became red. When I went to the clinic, they prescribed expensive antibiotics not covered by insurance and told me to take them. One month’s worth of medication cost over 100,000 won. The side effect of redness on the nasal bridge kept happening.
After 2-3 years, the side effect where the nasal tip looked round and translucent happened again. The nasal tip seemed like it was about to break through again. When I touched the nasal tip, I could feel something in an itchy-feeling way. It felt like the nasal tip skin and ear cartilage were wrapped in an extremely thin membrane, not even 1 mm thick.
The bridge of my nose was red, and the feeling of pressure on the nasal bridge was severe. I couldn’t even sleep because of nasal tip pain. More than anything, I was afraid the nasal tip would break through, so I couldn’t live normally.
When I went back to the clinic where I had the revision, the doctor who operated on me had left. Another female doctor said she would prescribe antibiotics again. I was writhing in pain, but she said my nose shape was fine, that she was sure the ear cartilage would not pierce through the skin, and only prescribed medicine. It was not pain or a shape that could be fixed with medication.
My skin was thin and I really felt like it would pierce through, so I went to Bom Bit in Suwon because they do autologous dermis. The doctor looked at my nose and said it would break through. I decided to have surgery.
In the first surgery, the Gore-Tex and ear cartilage were removed. At that time, I found out the previous doctor had used some kind of foreign material to support the columella area. Something like Medpor had been used, and it was broken. I want to upload the photo, but it looks gross, so I can’t. It was scary that that thin, square thing was broken.
Four days later, I had a second surgery using autologous dermis. Dermis was harvested from a hidden area in the buttock crease, layered several times, and grafted into the nose. At the nasal tip, the dermis was rolled into a round shape and set upright.
The doctor has been doing only autologous dermis for over 25 years. He does not use implants, and only performs autologous dermis surgery for people like me who suffer from nasal surgery side effects.
After experiencing nose side effects twice, I felt that even if it looks pretty right now, someday you can end up suffering from nose side effects. This doctor, who says he absolutely does not use silicone at all, felt like a true doctor to meㅜ
After surgery, I’m so happy that the Gore-Tex that had been pressing down on my nasal bridge, and the foreign material and cartilage that were about to break through my nose, are gone. My nose does not look operated on at all, and it is naturally high and elegant.
There is no chalk-like nasal bridge. The bridge is not dramatically high. It is natural and elegant. I can breathe well through my nose. Even if my baby hits my nose while sleeping, there is no impact.
When I meet neighborhood moms, I only notice their noses. Moms who had surgery look very obvious, and I feel bad thinking they may suffer from side effects someday. Mine is naturally high, so no one knows I had surgery. Still, I tell themㅜ Because I remember the emotional distress from side effects and the pain of having revision and another revision, when fellow cosmetic-surgery people struggle, I really want to give them informationㅜ Using another implant in a nose with side effects does not solve it.
I’m not trying to stop young and beautiful everyone here from getting beautiful nose surgery. When I was 20, if I could improve my low, small, flat-as-gum nose, I would have done anything.
But if time passes and side effects appear, I recommend revision with autologous dermis. Silicone or whatever it is can be removed. But you can’t live going back to your old flat, low nose, can you?
If you have side effects such as a nose suffering from complications, thin skin, calcification of the nasal bridge, or the feeling that the nasal tip is about to pierce through, you need to remove it immediately. And if you can’t give up height, the only option is to raise it with autologous dermis.
I didn’t receive anything from the clinic for writing this. I’m just writing because I’m satisfied after my final nose surgery. Dermis does get absorbed, but it can be supplemented with a dermis injection or something like that. I did not add more dermis.
For reference, my mother’s silicone nose from 40 years ago became calcified and the side wall of her nasal bridge became prominent, so I had her get revision surgery at Bom Bit. My 80-year-old maternal grandmother’s silicone nose from decades ago broke through the skin, so she received treatment at Bom Bit. My grandmother did not add dermis. Only the side effects were removed.
Nose surgery is so scary. Even if it is okay right now, when you become an older woman or grandmother, gravity can make the nose lower and the skin thinner, and side effects can appear.
You may not know right away, but for everyone struggling with side effects, I recommend autologous dermis.
