Yesterday and today I went around for consultations for my first surgery. I’m easily scared... so when I searched in this community, I looked for hospitals that seemed to recommend conservative approaches as much as possible. I wasn’t sure whether I had ptosis, and since there are many reviews about side effects from ptosis correction I went in thinking for now only about double-eyelid surgery plus medial epicanthoplasty.

Just like the reviews I had found, both the consultant and the director were very kind... gentle... that kind of feeling After looking at my eye shape, they immediately mentioned incision. But the director here apparently doesn’t do incisions, so surgery wasn’t even discussed, and it was over in 10 minutes total... However, while testing the line, they said my eye-opening strength is weak, so if I only do double-eyelid surgery, my eyes will look droopy and sleepy, and they recommended ptosis correction too. >> Incision, ptosis correction
Apgujeong ㅇㄹ I had too much free time, so I looked nearby and went without a reservation, but they had surgery in the morning, so they booked me for 12. There is a consultation fee, but they replaced it with adding their KakaoTalk channel and subscribing to YouTube. I filled out the chart, had eye photos taken, and met the consultant. She asked about my desired line, reason for surgery, etc. It seemed like time meant to hear what I wanted. The consultant was very cute and kind... After that, I waited about 20 minutes. The director came in wearing surgical scrubs. While trying lines on the left and right, he recommended incision, and because my eye-opening strength is weak, added ptosis correction too. He also recommended lateral canthoplasty with lower canthoplasty, saying that once I have double eyelids, the back of my eyes would look very short. So conversely, when doing medial epicanthoplasty, he said he would remove only about 50% of the epicanthal fold... (because if the front becomes too long, it is not good for balance). A lot of things were added on, but since he explained while showing me photos of my eyes, it felt understandable rather than excessive. I wanted an in-out line, but he said based on my features it would likely be somewhere between an inline and an in-out line. >> Incision, ptosis correction, medial epicanthoplasty, lateral + lower canthoplasty (lowering the outer corner) Then the consultant came back and briefly explained the surgery. It is done under sedation and local anesthesia, there is CCTV, and I would visit twice total, 1 day after and 7 days after. Follow-up until 6 months. The director sees everything. AS for 3 years. The total price is 4.05 million won if I provide eye photos and write a review; 3 million if I don’t do lateral + lower canthoplasty.

I said naturally from inline to in-out, and that my eye-opening strength seemed weak... Then I met the director right away and while talking we tried to set the line? He said the line doesn’t hold well and that my ptosis is severe; he said usually he would follow the patient’s eyes, but mine is too severe, so he can’t set a double-eyelid line and told me to go to a hospital specializing in ptosis... So I talked with the director for 10 minutes and it ended; I had especially high expectations for this place, so I was disappointed because I never thought I’d be refused... Separately, it felt like he told me what I really needed to hear, so that part was good.

We talked while looking at photos, and based on my eye shape, she recommended incision. While testing the line, like other places, she said ptosis correction seemed definitely necessary, and when I mentioned medial epicanthoplasty, she agreed that it would likely make a positive change to my overall impression. When I brought up lateral canthoplasty, which I had heard about yesterday, her stance was that it would be good if I did it, but it would also be fine if I didn’t. Also, since I couldn’t immediately think of questions, she told me about FAQs and aftercare too... Surgery is done under sedation and local anesthesia, CCTV is stored for 6 months. I come on day 7 to remove stitches, and follow-up is at 1 month and 6 months. Swelling laser, ophthalmic ointment, and scar care are all included in the price. Consultation lasted about 30 minutes. The director came in wearing surgical scrubs. It seemed like he spent almost all the time setting the line for me. Likewise, he first asked what I wanted. (Since I had just been refused right before, I went in somewhat skeptical and regretted not preparing questions because it felt like he was entirely listening to what I wanted.) Anyway, he also said my eyes are better suited to incision rather than buried sutures, and even after double-eyelid surgery, about 40% of my iris would be covered by the eyelid, so ptosis correction was included too. For reference, he said that because my eyes are sunken, it would be better to make the line thin. It was a relief because I wanted about an in-out line... Medial epicanthoplasty was included basically because I wanted it, and the director recommended lateral canthoplasty too, saying it would probably be okay for balance. She seemed surprised that the director recommended lateral canthoplasty, saying he usually doesn’t recommend canthoplasty easily There was talk of a deposit, but there was no pressure, and in the end, with eye photo provision and review writing it was 4.4 million won; 3.1 million if excluding lateral canthoplasty.
Now that I wrote it all down, I seem way too easily swayed But at the 2 places where surgery came up, when they talked about options, they pointed things out one by one so clearly that I naturally found myself nodding... But I never thought I’d be refused, so I’m still unsure... If ptosis is severe, do I really need to go to an ophthalmology clinic instead of a plastic surgery clinic?? For now I booked an ophthalmology clinic that does oculoplastic surgery, and I’m curious what people like me did.
