People around me say I somehow look a little different haha. Everything is settling in naturally.
I had a lot of stress from facial asymmetry and an underbite since I was young T_T At first, I thought orthodontic treatment could improve it, so I started braces. But after getting examined, I learned that it was not just a dental problem; the bones themselves were misaligned, so orthodontics alone would not solve it and I would need double jaw surgery. At first, even the words double jaw surgery felt overwhelming and I worried a lot, but since I had already started treatment, I decided to go ahead with surgery because I wanted to properly improve my facial asymmetry and underbite!!
When I was looking for a hospital, I thought safety and expertise were the most important things because it was such a major surgery. While reading many reviews, I saw a lot of posts recommending Lee Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and I felt reassured by the fact that it is a hospital specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery haha. In particular, during my consultation, Director Kim Jong-yoon explained my facial asymmetry and skeletal condition in detail and carefully told me how the surgery would proceed, so I really felt the professionalism. After a lot of deliberation, I decided to have the surgery at Lee Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery!!
It has already been 5 months since the surgery haha. In the early days, I felt like I was just waiting to recover day by day because of nasal congestion, swelling, and bruising, but now everyday life has become much more comfortable to the point that I do not really think about having had surgery!! Eating has become so much easier too. Up until about 2 to 3 months after surgery, I was careful with hard or chewy foods, but now I can eat most things without much difficulty unless they are extremely hard, like cartilage on chicken bones haha. Opening my mouth has also become easier, so there is almost no discomfort when eating.
Recently, I sometimes get a tingling sensation around my jaw. It is not something that keeps bothering me throughout daily life; it is just a slight different feeling, like when I move my lips while sitting still. Since the recovery process is not completely finished yet, I plan to keep watching it and take care of myself a little more!
My face also seems to be settling more naturally as time passes haha. Right after surgery, the swelling made the changes feel very dramatic, but now that the swelling has gone down a lot, the overall facial line has become more natural. The reactions from people around me are especially fun haha. People who do not know I had surgery tend not to say my face changed drastically; instead, they say I somehow look a little different. Personally, I wanted a result that felt natural rather than too artificial, so that kind of reaction actually makes me happier!!
Before surgery, I was very self-conscious about taking photos or looking at my face because of my facial asymmetry and underbite, but now I am satisfied because my overall impression feels naturally more balanced haha. At first, after surgery, my throat hurt and my nose was blocked, so even breathing was hard, and I wondered when I would be able to eat and live normally again. Now that 5 months have passed and I am living this comfortably, it still feels amazing. There are still some parts, like the jaw sensation, that need a little more recovery, but so far I think I have been recovering well without major discomfort haha. As time goes on, I think my face will settle even more naturally, so I am looking forward to the changes ahead 😊
