Before-before-after-after* Before surgery - I wanted to improve my asymmetry, long chin, and protruding jaw, so we made a treatment plan for double-jaw surgery + 2 types of facial contouring (square jaw and front chin) accordingly. I had been stressed about asymmetry since I was young, so I started orthodontic treatment, but I didn’t feel complete improvement or satisfaction, and after much thought, I decided on double-jaw surgery. So I had consultations at several hospitals, and among them, Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dental Clinic appealed to me the most, so I decided to have surgery there. However, when I went for preoperative tests such as a blood test, my iron level was low, so I bought and took iron supplements and also received iron injections. After raising it to somewhat above the normal range, I proceeded with surgery in a safe condition. During that time, they kept taking care of things like managing my condition until surgery, so I was grateful! Also, I thought I had eaten everything I wanted until fasting began, but thinking about it now, I feel like I should have eaten even more than I did then so I wouldn’t regret it They also told me in advance what supplies I would need at home after surgery, so I prepared things like a baby toothbrush, pumpkin juice, porridge, and protein drinks, and waited nervously while carefully reading the precautions.
* 2 weeks - I started to visibly see the swelling slowly going down! It was harder than I expected after surgery, but I was able to get by while feeling grateful that the surgery had finished safely. Breathing was uncomfortable, so sleeping was the hardest for me, but by week 2, I gradually felt like I could live again Time really does seem to be the cure. Even then, my mentality had weakened, so I think I tried to think as positively as possible. Time passed faster than expected, and later they became such minor things that I barely remembered them. And when I received postoperative treatment, the director personally did simple disinfection, suture removal, and so on. Maybe because I had worried so much, personally it was less painful than I expected! And it was nice that the director asked me questions first and kindly answered each one.
* 4 weeks - I could definitely see that the major swelling had gone down. I started going outside little by little wearing a hat, and I focused on reducing swelling by walking diligently. Of course, warm compresses are also essential and seem to help swelling go down faster. Eating was still not easy, but I was grateful just to be able to put soft foods in my mouth.. And I started orthodontic treatment. Since I had orthodontic treatment before, it didn’t feel awkward, but it was hard because my mouth wouldn’t open When I opened my mouth, it only opened enough for one finger to fit, so I slightly regretted not doing mouth-opening exercises diligently.. So I think from then on I started doing mouth-opening exercises really diligently!!
* 2 months - From 2 months onward, I really lived daily life well without difficulty. Especially as a result of doing mouth-opening exercises diligently!!! When I opened my mouth, more than two fingers could fit..! It was fascinating, and it felt like my jaw movement had somehow become smoother? Since I’m in postoperative orthodontic treatment, my teeth still don’t fit together very well, but I still ate better than expected, so the weight I lost came back quickly. I also tried wearing makeup, dressing up, and meeting people little by little, spending good time. The most fascinating thing was that when I took a front-facing photo with the regular camera, my asymmetry used to show prominently, but that appearance had improved a lot. Of course, swelling still remains, but I knew it would go down with time, so I wasn’t too worried and was actually looking forward to it! Honestly, I’m still not used to my face after surgery, but of course, the face before surgery is the face I had seen for a long time in my life, so it makes sense that my current face feels unfamiliar I’ll keep doing well going forward too~!
