This is a review I’m writing 8 months after having surgery last July.
My bite was aligned, but my maxilla was a bit underdeveloped and my chin tip protruded slightly, so when I smiled, my chin tip looked even more prominent. It was subtle enough that people around me wouldn’t know unless I told them, but it was an issue that bothered me.
My teeth were also crooked, so I finished orthodontic treatment 7 years ago, but my chin tip looked more protruded than before. I already didn’t have much cheek fat, and it felt like my cheeks became even more hollow and my facial shape stood out more, so I regretted getting orthodontic treatment a lot.
I looked up a lot of side effects related to jaw surgery online and kept suppressing my desire to have surgery, but last July I called the hospital and made an appointment. I chose this place because I felt the director had written many papers related to double-jaw surgery and was doing a lot of research to reduce side effects.
I thought I was a mandibular case, but I also had asymmetry, my mouth opened in a slightly zigzag pattern when I opened it, my chin tip protruded somewhat, and my anterior cheeks were sunken, so I lacked front cheek volume.
They said double-jaw surgery could compensate for that. They said I was not a case that needed only mandibular surgery, and recommended either double-jaw surgery or genioplasty, so after thinking it over, I decided on double-jaw surgery.
Usually, I know that other places require about 3 days of hospitalization after surgery, but here they said one day was enough, so I really stayed hospitalized for one day and was discharged. Since I live in Busan, when I was discharged the day after surgery, I covered my facial bandage as best I could with a neck pillow + hat and mask, and took the KTX. Still, everyone around me probably noticed, right? But my body was in better condition than I had worried. I could walk around well, which was surprising. I thought I would need support to go, but to reduce swelling, I walked around the station by myself for several laps.
From day 5 after surgery, I was able to sleep through the night And at this hospital, you come in 1 week after surgery and start wearing a wafer and elastics. One week after surgery, I traveled alone from Busan to Seoul and back, but even walking a little made me short of breath, so I walked while taking deep breaths. I heard that at other hospitals, they put on the wafer and elastics immediately after surgery so you can’t breathe properly, but at this hospital they start from 1 week after surgery, so I truly felt blessed
Now, 8 months later, I still have swelling in the philtrum area, but they say philtrum swelling originally lasts the longest, so I’ll have to wait more.
I don’t regret having double-jaw surgery~ I thought I wouldn’t be able to adjust if my face changed too much, so I asked them to make it as natural as possible. So my friends say I became prettier in a natural way. I think so too
For those considering double-jaw surgery, I sincerely hope it goes well without side effects. Thank you for reading this long post.
