Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

My parents, who opposed double-jaw surgery, now like it even more than I do >_< (Long one-year review ♡)

The biggest change after double-jaw surgery has been not only my facial shape, but also how I see myself, haha! It has already been a year since I had double-jaw surgery with Director Shin Hui-jin at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I used to lack confidence in my appearance to the point that I would never take photos taken by others, but now I enjoy taking photos and worry much less about people’s eyes! Since childhood, I had been self-conscious about a slight mandibular prognathism and facial asymmetry, and as time passed I even stopped taking selfies often. I was especially concerned about my profile and lower face, so I eventually decided on double-jaw surgery. I narrowed down clinics known for double-jaw surgery and had consultations at two places, including Iyu Oral. Director Shin examined my facial bones more carefully and explained the surgical options in greater detail. Other clinics told me that only the IVRO method was possible, but Director Shin explained that SSRO would also be fully feasible, so I trusted her and decided to proceed, haha. At one month after surgery, swelling remained, but from week four I gradually gained the confidence to go out without a mask. I could open my mouth more easily, and brushing my teeth became more comfortable! I had read many reviews saying double-jaw surgery was very painful, but it was less painful than expected for me, and my recovery was progressing steadily. At two to three months, I could eat regular food except for hard and tough foods. As the major swelling subsided, I began to notice my changed profile. There was still residual swelling around the front cheeks and nose, but compared with my preoperative photos, I liked my current appearance much more. Improving the mandibular prognathism and facial asymmetry I had worried about for so long made me feel emotionally at ease too. At four to five months, everyone I met after a long time told me that my face had become much smaller! My face shape looked very different to me, but people around me did not realize I had undergone double-jaw surgery unless I told them and simply thought I had lost weight, which was fascinating, haha. Sensation around my jaw was still dull at that point, but it did not cause major inconvenience in daily life. Most of all, I only remember being satisfied with how naturally I had changed, haha. At six to seven months, I stopped covering my face in photos or worrying about my profile as I had before. I started running, and it felt like the residual swelling was gradually going down. Sensation in my cheeks was also returning little by little. The best part was that not only my facial shape but also my confidence in everyday life had changed after surgery, haha!! At eight to nine months, I looked so natural that nobody knew I had surgery unless I mentioned it first! I really liked how my smaller face and retruded mouth refined my lower face, and every time people told me I looked prettier, my self-esteem rose too. Before, whenever someone looked at me, I would irrationally feel as though they were looking at my jaw, but now I no longer worry much about those looks. At ten to eleven months, I heard very often that my face looked small. I had hesitated for a long time because of the cost and recovery period, but as time passed, I kept thinking that I had made the right decision. Sensation had not yet fully returned, but daily life was not significantly inconvenient. My parents even said I seemed to smile more after surgery and apologized for opposing it at first, haha. Finally, it has been one full year since my long-awaited double-jaw surgery!!! It is not that I suddenly became unbelievably beautiful just because I had surgery. Rather, improving the mandibular prognathism and facial asymmetry that had bothered me most greatly changed how I feel when I look at my face. When I was young, even casual comments from friends and acquaintances who teased me about my mandibular prognathism hurt me deeply, and I lacked confidence so much that I avoided even taking photos. But now I take photos without hiding my face and live without being as conscious of other people’s gazes as before. Above all, hearing people say that my face looks smaller or that I look prettier has given me confidence I never had before, haha. Of course, double-jaw surgery was not an easy decision! At first, swelling and dietary restrictions were inconvenient, and I think I still need more time for sensation in my jaw and face to fully return. Even so, the problems I experienced during a year of recovery have improved considerably, and now I live comfortably without being very conscious of the fact that I had surgery! Before surgery, I was busy looking only for flaws in my face, but now I am satisfied with my changed facial shape when I look in the mirror, and I am truly happy that I can enjoy taking photos with friends again, T_T. I had many doubts before deciding on double-jaw surgery, and recovery was not always easy, but looking back, I want to praise myself for finding the courage a year ago, haha!! Above all, I am deeply grateful that I escaped the appearance complex that troubled me for so long and regained my confidence, and to Director Shin Hui-jin for helping make that possible!! In every way, this was a very satisfying one-year review.
