Review after 9 years since LASEK

In the summer of 2015, ahead of my wedding, I had a consultation for vision correction surgery and was told that both LASEK and LASIK were possible.

I was told that LASEK can be redone even if my vision drops later, but LASIK cannot be redone, so I went ahead with LASEK.

I visited the hospital a total of 3 times: the first was for various tests, consultation, and setting the surgery date; then I came in on the day of surgery and had the procedure; afterward, I visited once more for follow-up care.

The surgery time itself did not take long, but it was done under local anesthesia while I was fully conscious, and it felt like cold water kept being poured on me, so it was a bit difficult.

For 3 days after surgery, I felt extreme pain as if my eyeballs were being rolled in grains of sand, so I wanted to pull my eyeballs out, and I kept regretting having the surgery while wearing eye patches and streaming tears.

On the morning of the 4th day after surgery, I opened my eyes, and unlike usual, I didn’t feel pain. When I took off the eye patches, I witnessed the miracle of seeing the pattern on my ceiling clearly.

Since then, I’ve been living without glasses or contact lenses, and even when swimming, I can choose goggles without prescription lenses, and I can choose sunglasses only by design.

If my eyesight gets worse again, I’ll do LASEK again...
