First, I’ll post the process below.
First surgery: Because of functional breathing problems, I had surgery for a deviated septum + used the remaining septal cartilage for the nasal bridge + nasal tip, and had cartilage tying through an open approach.
Only one side of my nose felt pinched, and my columella was also crooked, so we decided to do early removal of only the cartilage-tying sutures through a closed approach. (Keeping the rest of what was placed in the nasal tip and bridge, no cartilage repositioning)
1 week after early removal: almost symmetrical 2-3 weeks after early removal: Starting from week 2, it began returning to a one-sided pinched shape, and the columella gradually became more crooked. Seen from below the nose, the columella is actually more off-center than after the first surgery. I can also see the shape of an inverted-V deformity.
My functional problem was so severe that I could barely breathe, so I got nasal surgery at an ENT to fix it. I chose that hospital because, in my area, it seemed fairly well known for functional nose surgery. (On the hospital website, they advertise functional rhinoplasty.) But after surgery, I was worried about possible side effects, so even before surgery I kept asking the doctor whether there would be side effects, and he confidently said there were none and told me not to worry.. The only side effect I was told about was perforation. Even then, they kept recommending silicone… I think I did well to strongly refuse because I didn’t want that.
After surgery, when the splint came off, one side of my nose looked sharply pinched, and I could also see from below that the columella was bent to the left. So I told the doctor, and he said it was swelling and told me to wait. But after 2 weeks, the crooked columella was actually more visible from the front, and it was so asymmetrical that I told him again. Maybe it looked strange even to him, because he said it seemed like only one side had been pinched during the cartilage tying.. So in the end, we decided to do an early correction 2 weeks later, removing only the sutures.
Right after that surgery, it almost returned to my original nose shape, and my nostrils also became almost symmetrical. It was fine for about a week. But starting 2 weeks later, one side began looking pinched again and the columella started bending, so I asked the doctor. He said that because he made an incision only on one side through a closed approach to remove the suture, as the wound healed it was being pulled to one side, and that it would get better with time. I thought that must be the case and left. Now another week has passed since then, and it’s week 3 after the early correction.. It seems to be getting more and more crooked, whether I look from the front or from below.. And especially when I look at my nose from above, it is completely turned sideways.
No matter how much a wound contracts as it heals, I don’t think it should bend like that, so I went to another ENT. They said that, in their view, it doesn’t seem to be from contraction due to the wound, and that the chance of it returning looks slim… Well, I’ll have to wait more to know, but because of this I can’t do anything all day, and I’m just stuck in the dark looking only for posts about similar cases lol. I seriously feel like I’m going to lose my mind.
I saw a post written by a doctor saying that if the shape was okay right after removal, the shape would later return.. Do you think this shape will return? Ah, I’m so furious and stressed that I feel like I’m going crazy…
