Before-before-after-after First, the reason I decided to have two-jaw surgery was that my long chin and the flat-looking face it caused had stressed me out since I was young, and this appearance-related complex was really eating away at my self-esteem. So I thought I absolutely needed two-jaw surgery for a better future for myself, and I made the decision.
The reason I chose this oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic was that I really liked that they only perform one surgery per day. At other hospitals, they would do SSRO on anyone, but here I liked that the director chooses a different surgical method depending on the patient’s case. Also, the director talked about the thickness of my jawbone, which I hadn’t heard about at other hospitals, and said that for the safety of the nerve line, I should have surgery with IVRO. That really stood out to me, and because I prioritized safety, I thought, “I should do it here,” so I decided on the day of the consultation.
So on November 23 of last year, I had two-jaw surgery and two facial contouring procedures (square jaw and chin), and now more than 2 months have passed!
At the 1-month mark, I removed the wafer and started elastic correction :) When starting elastic correction, I told them that the screws in my lower teeth were digging into my gums and felt uncomfortable. After taking a look, they said my gums were swollen and suggested removing them, so they removed exactly two from my lower teeth. They said I might need to have them placed again later if necessary!
After removing the wafer, wow.. it felt so refreshing.. I could speak comfortably, and when eating outside I only had to take off the elastics! I thought it was less uncomfortable than I expected, but actually it wasn’t. After removing the wafer, I’ve been eating almost a regular diet. But I still think I need to be careful, so I try to avoid tough or hard foods as much as possible. Maybe because I’m back to regular food, the weight I had lost is coming back,,
As for sensory recovery, my skin sensation has come back a lot, but my gums and palate still seem a bit slower. But the director told me those areas would slowly come back starting after 3 months, and since the sensation in my palate is gradually returning, I’m not too worried because I think it will all come back with time. Also, after surgery, the muscles around my mouth felt kind of stiff? So every morning and evening when I apply lotion, I massage them within a comfortable range and loosen the muscles! It definitely feels like the stiffness is less when I loosen the muscles.
After two-jaw surgery, I feel like my confidence has really increased a lot. My facial side profile was a huge complex for me, but now whether someone takes a photo from the side or whatever, I really.. don’t mind at all, and I’m even asking people to take pictures of me. They told me from the first consultation that asymmetry can’t be corrected perfectly, so I didn’t expect too much, but compared with before surgery, I think it has improved a lot, so I’m satisfied. And as I recovered more and gradually started meeting acquaintances, the thing I heard the most~ was that my impression had become much cuter lol. I also heard a lot of people say, “It’s you, but somehow a different you!” haha
I was worried, “What if my impression changes too much?” but thankfully that wasn’t the case :) As time passes, the corners of my mouth also seem to be becoming more natural, so I think I’ll keep recovering subtly until 6 months.
If there are people reading reviews who are 1 week post-op,, once all the swelling goes down, it absolutely won’t be that face(?), so don’t worry, do your warm/cold compresses well, and walk a lot. Once the swelling drops a lot, your real face comes out, so I hope you can hang in there a little, accept the changes, and recover well :)
