Right now I have L-shaped silicone in, so they’ll remove that, and since my nasal septum is already deviated and damaged, we decided to use silicone for the nasal bridge + costal cartilage for the nasal tip, but I have to decide between autologous costal cartilage and donor rib cartilage.
When I decided on revision surgery, I thought I’d definitely do autologous costal cartilage and went to consultations, but they said donor rib cartilage doesn’t have major problems these days and is used a lot for revisions, so I’m torn.
Neither the director nor the consultant pressured me much, and they said it’s my choice. The price difference is around one million won, so I’m excluding that from the things to worry about.
I tolerate pain well, so if it hurts, it hurts, and I’m not too worried about pain. I’m married and have given birth too lol, and I don’t really have occasions to expose that area, so I’m not very worried about an incision scar from autologous costal cartilage. They say donor rib cartilage is taken from a cadaver, but I don’t feel resistance to that either. But the biggest thing bothering me is that I have keloid-prone skin on the body below my face.. My C-section keloid raised up a lot, so I got steroid injections more than 10 times..
Autologous costal cartilage: worried it may be calcified + worried about warping + worried about suffering badly from keloids, but since it’s taken from my own body, the inflammation risk is lower. Absorption is lower. Donor rib cartilage: higher probability of absorption + inflammation, but no need to worry about keloids, convenient, and faster recovery.
Because of the surgery duration, I need to decide and let them know as quickly as possible, but I can’t decide. Everyone, which one would you choose for surgery..?!
