I had been very stressed since childhood because of facial asymmetry and a protruding jaw T_T. At first, I thought orthodontic treatment could improve it, so I started orthodontics. However, after examination, I learned that it was not just a dental problem—the bones themselves were misaligned—so orthodontics alone would be difficult and double-jaw surgery would be necessary.
At first, the very idea of double-jaw surgery felt daunting, and I was very worried, but since I had started treatment, I wanted to properly improve my facial asymmetry and protruding jaw, so I decided to undergo surgery!! When looking for a clinic, safety and expertise were my top priorities because it was such a major operation. While reading many reviews, I saw many recommendations for [Clinic A], and I also trusted it because it specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery haha.
Especially during my consultation, Dr. Kim Jong-yoon examined my facial asymmetry and skeletal condition in detail and carefully explained how the surgery would be performed, which gave me confidence. I really felt the clinic's expertise because they explained not only my facial shape but also my overall skeletal structure and occlusion. After much deliberation, I decided to have surgery at [Clinic A]!!
It has already been 7 months since my surgery haha. Around month 5, I already felt that daily life had become much easier, but now there seem to be more days when I completely forget that I had surgery. In the beginning, I constantly paid attention to changes in swelling, eating, and sensation day by day, but now I hardly think about them in everyday life.
Eating has become really easy too haha. I used to deliberate before eating hard or chewy foods, but now I can eat most foods without much discomfort. Of course, I am still careful with extremely hard foods, but during ordinary meals I eat as naturally as I did before surgery.
Before surgery, I was concerned about my facial asymmetry and protruding jaw, and because my occlusion itself was poor, I also felt discomfort when chewing. I am very satisfied that those aspects have become much easier now. Right after surgery, I wondered when I would be able to eat normally again, but as time passed, everything really returned little by little haha.
At month 5, I sometimes felt a tingling sensation around my jaw, but now it seems to happen much less often and bothers me much less. In daily life I am hardly aware of it, and occasionally my lips or jaw feel slightly different when I move them. My sensation also seems to be gradually improving with time!
My facial contours also feel even more natural than they did at month 5 haha. Since I see my face every day, I cannot really notice daily changes, but when I compare old photos, it is clear that my facial asymmetry has been corrected and my overall impression has changed a lot.
Most of all, I wanted my face to look naturally refined from my original features rather than suddenly becoming unnaturally different. I am satisfied because that feeling seems to show more clearly as time passes!! People around me sometimes say that my facial contours look more defined or that I look better, rather than saying I look like I had surgery haha. When people who do not know about the surgery see me, they cannot identify exactly what changed, but they sometimes say I look different overall, and that makes me happy for no particular reason.
Before surgery, I was so conscious of my facial asymmetry and protruding jaw whenever I took photos that I paid a lot of attention to the angle. Now, not being as conscious of my face as before also feels like a major change. Comparing old photos with current ones, the difference is noticeable enough to make me wonder why I was so worried haha.
When I first consulted Dr. Kim Jong-yoon at [Clinic A] and decided on surgery, I was extremely worried, so it is amazing that 7 months have already passed and I am living so comfortably. Thinking back to the period immediately after surgery, when my throat hurt and my nose was blocked, and the time I spent waiting for the swelling to subside, I can really feel how much I have recovered.
There are still aspects, such as sensation, that need more time and observation, but I have almost no inconvenience in daily life haha. My face also seems to be settling more naturally as time passes, so I am satisfied with the changes so far.
After observing the process for 7 months, I feel that double-jaw surgery is not something whose results end immediately after surgery; it is a process in which the face gradually settles and recovers over several months. I am looking forward to seeing how it changes further with more time 😊
