Hello~ I’m leaving a review of SMILE LASIK as someone who had high myopia. I had SMILE LASIK at SNU Eye Clinic on August 12 this year. My left eye was about -4.5 and my right eye about -7.5, so I had severe high myopia and was worried I might not be eligible for SMILE LASIK. If it wasn’t possible, I was planning to get implantable contact lenses, but ICL surgery cost about twice as much, so it felt burdensome. Fortunately, I was able to get SMILE LASIK with an added corneal strengthening procedure, and I’m extremely satisfied with the result! People with high myopia can also get SMILE LASIK, so I hope you don’t lose hope.
I made an appointment so I could have surgery on the same day as the exam, and after thinking about which director to choose, I had it done by Director Kim Joo-hyun. He appears on YouTube a lot, so he felt more familiar, and I liked that he explained things well.
Pain and recovery There was no pain at all during the surgery, and starting about one or two hours after surgery, I had a stinging/sore sensation for around three hours. My vision recovered enough for daily life from the next day. Now, about a week after surgery, my right eye has recovered to around 1.2, and my left eye still seems to be under 1.0. The director said that my vision recovery is currently about 90%, and that this can happen because the two eyes recover at different speeds. What I was most worried about before surgery was dry eye, but as someone who used to wear contact lenses 12 hours a day, it’s less dry than that! When my eyes are dry, glare does get worse, so I recommend using artificial tears consistently and resting as long as possible before returning to daily life. He said the glare should also gradually recover within 4 weeks.
Both the director and the consultant were kind, and the surgery went well, so I’m satisfied. You can get discounts both for having surgery on the day of the exam and through a referral from an acquaintance. I also liked that they guarantee free LASEK within 10 years if myopia returns!
