Day 7 Review of Lens Implant Surgery at ㅆㅇ Ophthalmology in Daegu

<My eye condition> High myopia + astigmatism

<Reason for choosing the clinic> A location I could visit often because I live in Daegu. Aversion to factory-style surgery.

<Vision exam and consultation> Vision exam cost: 50,000 KRW I went on a weekday morning, and they carried out the eye exam kindly. I had about a 15-minute Q&A with the director about the surgery. The director also explained things well.

<Diagnosis and surgical method> My corneal thickness was not bad, but my eyesight was so poor that LASIK or LASEK was out of the question (I expected this). So we decided to proceed with lens implant surgery, and because correcting astigmatism with the lens would make the cost more than 1 million KRW higher, they decided to add astigmatism correction during the surgery.

<Surgery> Including preoperative preparation, it was finished within an hour. There was no pain, but I did feel pressure when the lens was being implanted.

<After surgery> On the day the surgery ended, because of the dilating drops? everything was blurry and it was hard to see anything. I took one painkiller and slept straight through until the next day.

<Surgical result> When I was examined the day after surgery, both eyes were adjusted close to the originally targeted 1.0 visual acuity (the left eye seems to be slightly under 1.0). According to the director, the surgical result was fine.

From what I feel, the astigmatism symptom where images overlapped into multiple images seems to be gone. But the focus is a little different from what I was used to when wearing my old glasses, so it feels less clear than the numbers suggest. It may be an adjustment issue. I do feel a bit regretful, wondering how it would have been if we had set the target vision a little higher.

I had expected the surgery cost to be roughly in the 5 million KRW range, but it was cheaper than that, so I’m satisfied in terms of cost. Since it was lens implant surgery, I could see well from the next day. There was no major problem going to work three days after surgery.
