I had LASEK last October, and it will soon be 1 year. For now, I am satisfied to the point that I have forgotten what life with glasses was like.
Honestly, before the surgery, I kept putting it off because of a vague fear. Then I heard a rumor that once you turn 40, they won’t do the surgery because of presbyopia, so I thought I should hurry and quickly looked for a place and got it done.
Aside from the hospital where I had surgery, I had eye exams twice at a hospital in Gangnam known for being conservative, and I also met the director. As expected, they were extremely conservative and tried to stop me, saying I should not have the surgery.
First of all, the value that hospital trusted a lot was within the normal range, but it did not meet the director’s standards. They also said my corneas were on the thinner side, and because I had slight astigmatism and dry eye syndrome, they were concerned about side effects.
At the hospital where I had the surgery, during the eye exam, they said that because my corneas were thin, retreatment would not be possible, dry eye syndrome was expected to be similar before and after surgery, but I would likely have some glare/halos.
When I said I still wanted to do it even if there were side effects, they proceeded with the surgery. After surgery, maybe because it was LASEK, my eyes stung so badly that for 5 days I was in no state to be seen.
My vision gradually improved, and around the 2-month mark it was 1.2 / 1.2, so I was happy, but at the final 6-month eye exam it dropped to 1.0 / 0.9 ㅠㅠ That is my final vision, and it has stayed the same up to now.
After surgery, I do not have glare/halos, but my dry eye syndrome has gotten a bit worse. There are no other side effects, and even when I go to other ophthalmology clinics, they say there are no other problems with my eyes.
