I had double eyelid surgery with an incision 10 years ago and have been living with it more or less okay. Back then, I did want a glamorous look, but because the crease was fixed so deeply, my impression also looked harsher, and I wanted to lower the line a little to make my image softer. I searched like crazy through cafes, blogs, apps, and this community.
I set my own criteria: 1) they should have many revision cases, 2) mainly real patient reviews, 3) the director's experience, and 4) recommendations from people around me. After looking around with those standards, I finally booked a consultation with the main director at an Apgujeong clinic, and I ended up having the surgery there too.
For the main director, I paid a 50,000 won reservation deposit in advance to prevent no-shows, and that 50,000 won was refunded after the consultation ended. I had heard from acquaintances too that many celebrities and trainee influencers go there, so I expected it to be crowded, and it really was, even on a weekday.
The hospital booking team told me to expect about two and a half hours at the clinic, so I intentionally cleared almost my whole day, but it actually ended sooner than expected? They said the director's pre-op cases before mine finished quickly. I guess I was lucky;; After filling out the chart, taking phone photos, and consulting with the manager, it seems it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes in total.
The director's style was confident, and his way of speaking was a bit cynical too. But what I felt during the consultation was that he definitely seemed like someone who has seen a lot of eyes!! (It's hard to put into words.. I was nervous when he looked at me, but he roughly checked my brow bone position and facial proportions.) He first checked the current line, the extra skin I had, and the previous scar, and he said that although the old double eyelid had been fixed quite deeply, there was a difference between the left and right sides.
I only heard that at this consultation, so it was interesting. He said the current line was high, so lowering it was the right move, and since I had enough skin available, I wouldn't need a full fold reduction. It felt like he was brief but said everything he needed to say? When he asked if I had anything I wanted, I said I didn't want the line to disappear completely either, so I wanted it to look thin. He said it would be hard to make it into a semi line, but if he opened up the space with an epicanthoplasty, he would bring the line out so it would look thin. If something wasn't possible, he said a clear no, but he still tried to work with my requests, so I thought, ah, is this that tsundere side? (I liked it)
During the consultation, it felt like he was holding back on the line a little, so at first it was a bit unclear, but he said that because the existing line was thick and deeply fixed, it would be hard to accurately judge if he designed it straight from the current state.... But on the day itself, he checked my eye condition again for a long time and designed it like he was obsessively perfecting it. Even I thought, do we really need to keep designing this much now? I read in reviews that the director is probably a perfectionist... Anyway, rather than expecting a very kind, empathic style, I think it's better to think of him as the type who tells you in advance what results are realistically possible. People will probably like or dislike that, but I was in the like camp, and in the process of explaining what needed to be adjusted by looking at my eyes, I could feel his experience and expertise, which is why I decided to go with him.
What I found disappointing was that since there were clearly so many people, the waiting time and aftercare side were a bit disappointing. But then, like my acquaintances said, after the surgery I liked the line, so I didn't really care about the hospital system anymore. If someone asked me to recommend a revision surgery hospital, I would 100% recommend this one. It wasn't cheap, but my case itself was difficult, so among the places I visited there really weren't any cheap options.... The price difference was about the amount of VAT? So the cost wasn't what decided the hospital for me.
