These days, every time I look in the mirror, I can see how different I look, so for no reason at all I feel incredibly, incredibly happy! I had double-jaw contouring surgery from Dr. Shin Hijeen at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery! I’m leaving this review to record the changes I felt over the past month, almost like a progress journal. In high school, I was diagnosed with a class III malocclusion because of my underbite, and after I got a consultation for orthodontic treatment as an adult, I was told that I would need jaw surgery to bring the jaw back. That’s how I started surgical orthodontic treatment, but during the pre-orthodontic phase, my underbite actually looked more pronounced, so I was under a lot of stress! Especially while serving in the military, I heard over and over that I looked displeased and scary. The stress from nicknames based on my jaw and from how I looked in photos was so great that I decided to have surgery timed with my discharge. When I was looking into hospitals, I was simply hoping my jaw would be set back, but at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Shin and the hospital consultation director clearly understood my current facial shape and the parts I wanted improved, and the way they explained everything confidently gave me trust. I also liked the structured aftercare, including the surgery process and safety system, so I chose Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery! [Week 1] To be honest, because I had an underbite, I was one of those people who could tell from day 1 that my face looked smaller, which was fascinating. From week 1, the swelling around my eyes went down a lot right away, and the bruising around my lips and eyes was almost gone. In the past, my cheekbones stuck out so much that when I wore a cap, my face looked even bigger, so I hardly wore one. But when I wore one again for the first time in a while after surgery, it felt like my face was going into the cap, which was so fascinating and made me really happy!!! It had only been a week, but I could already see changes, so I was excited to see what it would be like once the swelling went down more!! [Week 2] The bruising around my lips was almost completely gone, and the hamster-like swelling in my cheeks had gone down a lot, so I could feel my facial contours gradually coming back!! As my jaw and cheekbones became more refined, my eyes looked bigger and my nose seemed higher than before, so every time I looked in the mirror I felt happy I was also excited at the thought that the day I could go out without a mask was not far off anymore. [Week 3] The day I was discharged happened to be exactly the third week, and people in my unit said I suited my current post-surgery look much better too. I myself was really happy to be discharged looking different from before!! In the army, every time I heard that I looked scary, I felt like I had to act in a way that matched that image, so I think I ended up acting rather bluntly. Now I feel like I’ll be able to return to school and live more confidently with a smiling face [1 month] Now I’m comfortable enough to go around without a mask~ Before, even when walking through crowded places, I would unconsciously look down at the ground because I was worried about people’s eyes, but now I can walk around much more confidently People around me even ask whether I also had eye surgery or nose surgery!! It seems that as my jaw went back, the proportions of my original face changed, which is why I look that way My personality has always been bright, but after hearing that I looked scary in both the army and at school, I was subtly hurt a lot. After surgery, I often hear that my impression looks much softer, and that is the most satisfying part. I’m already so, so excited to see how I’ll change in the future!
