Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Underbite + asymmetry double jaw surgery

I have lived with an underbite and facial asymmetry since childhood. As I got older, my jaw became more prominent, and I also felt other people's stares, so I have been under a lot of stress all this time. It took a long time before I decided to have double jaw surgery, but I made the decision because I wanted to fix my complex for sure. I had consultations at two places in total, and among them I decided to get double jaw surgery and contouring type 2 (chin and square jaw) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The reasons I chose Y Oral Surgery were the one-surgery-per-day policy, the doctor's long experience, and the fact that I could see the surgery process in real time. After consulting with the doctor, I was able to decide on surgery with confidence because he explained exactly how my complexes could be corrected and only pointed out the parts I truly needed. Also, whenever I had questions before surgery, I often contacted the manager, and she kindly explained everything well. I was a case of pre-orthodontic treatment followed by surgery, so I had about 10 months of orthodontic treatment before proceeding with the operation. It was nice that I could do both the orthodontic treatment and the surgery at the same hospital. I am currently undergoing post-surgery orthodontic treatment, and they keep saying that my bite is gradually improving, and I feel that chewing food has become easier than before! When I went in for orthodontic checkups, they took CT scans from time to time so I could confirm that I was steadily recovering. Also, on the day of my first orthodontic visit after surgery, I had to wear elastics. At first, my mouth was very swollen, so I could barely open it, and above all, since it had not been long since the surgery, I was scared just putting on the elastics, so there was a time when it took me an hour just to put one side on.. But as I kept putting the elastics on and taking them off every day, I gradually got used to it, and I think I worked hard to wear them properly and align my bite. I had my surgery at the beginning of January, so I was careful not to catch a cold when going out. I also took iron supplements and vitamins, and I think I took care of my body that way. On the day of surgery, I came in with my guardian by 9:40. It was a private room, and after unpacking and changing into a patient gown, I waited a little. Then a nurse came to check everything one last time, such as whether I had fasted, and I went into the operating room. I fell asleep at the same time I felt the anesthesia going in, and when I woke up, the surgery was over. Until evening, I kept breathing out to remove the anesthesia gas, and because I had the bandage and ice pack on, I did not feel any separate pain in my face apart from the heavy feeling. My nose was completely blocked and I had phlegm in my throat, so breathing was uncomfortable, and what was especially hard was that I kept gagging whenever they gave me pain medication. On day 2, they removed the urine bag and drainage tube, and I walked around the hospital a little and drank water and Newcare. Walking little by little made me feel like my body condition was gradually coming back. I was discharged on day 3. I came home, slept well, and spent the time walking around. I had to take pills three times a day, but because my airway was swollen I could not swallow them and water kept leaking out to the side, so I crushed the pills and mixed them with water to drink. On day 5 my face was very swollen and I felt heat, but after that day the swelling went down steadily and I was fine. Starting one month after surgery, I could chew, so I began with soft foods and gradually practiced chewing. At first even chewing soft foods was hard, but I got used to it by chewing different foods. From then on my appetite gradually returned, so I went out for longer periods and focused on regaining my stamina. Two months after surgery, I also took a domestic trip! From three months after surgery, the swelling kept going down and I could feel my face shape changing. I ate meat and all the foods I had wanted to eat! I had fully returned to my pre-surgery stamina, and I could go about daily life without difficulty. In months 4 to 5, I was living my daily life as usual to the point that you would not know I had surgery, and I was doing well without major discomfort. Now that I am at month 6, about 80 percent of the swelling has gone down and it looks like my original face. Even at 3 months, I thought the swelling had already gone down enough, but looking at my face now, I feel it looks much more natural than before! I am eating everything without any foods off-limits. After surgery, I no longer feel stressed when photos are taken from the side; in fact, I take them even more often! And compared with before surgery, I seem to be having more fun with makeup Seeing my appearance gradually change as the swelling went down after surgery made me feel that I made the right choice. My self-esteem went up, and I could feel my confidence in my face gradually increasing too. When I first said I was going to have double jaw surgery, everyone around me said it sounded dangerous and that it would probably hurt a lot, but after the surgery, when they saw my face, they all said the surgery turned out so well and that I must have gone through a lot. The first two weeks after surgery were a bit hard, but as time passed and I watched my face gradually change, I felt that I had made the right decision to have the surgery, and I am extremely satisfied that I was able to resolve my long-time complex!
