Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Already 6 months since jaw surgery 3 after pre-orthodontics

Hello. Before surgery I was worried about severe asymmetry and prominent cheekbones, so I considered jaw surgery, and it has already been 6 months since I had double-jaw surgery at Y Oral Surgery. Before surgery I also visited an orthodontic clinic, but I was told that orthodontics alone would not improve it enough, so I decided to have surgery at Y Oral Surgery. What first made me choose this hospital was that the facility was clean, there was an anesthesiology department and an orthodontic department, and I could be seen by a guardian through CCTV during the surgery, which gave me confidence. I did pre-orthodontics for about 6 months, and because my temporomandibular joint was not in good condition, I underwent double-jaw surgery using the IVRO method plus contouring 3 types (cheekbones, square jaw, and chin). On the day of surgery I was so nervous that I could not sleep at all the night before and went to the hospital, but after anesthesia and waking up, the surgery had already been completed. On the first day I was confused because of the anesthesia, and it was hard to even drink water because of intermaxillary fixation. Breathing was difficult too, but the nurses checked on me regularly. From the second day I could walk and received swelling laser treatment. My nose was still blocked and I had a lot of saliva, so it was hard, but it was better than the day before, and I think I practiced drinking water a lot. When I was discharged on the third day, the swelling was still severe, but breathing had improved a little, so I felt much more comfortable. The powdered medicine prescribed at the pharmacy tasted so awful that it was hard to take at first, but it was more tolerable when mixed with juice. Because of the intermaxillary fixation, I lived on New Care, and I walked a lot to reduce swelling. At the one-week mark I went to the hospital to remove the stitches near the cheekbones, and it did not hurt at all. I could still only eat liquid food, but just New Care was getting boring, so I mixed in things like cold noodle broth and protein drinks. In the second week, I had the stitches in my mouth and the elastics removed and started moving my mouth for the first time. At first I was scared because it felt like my jaw might come loose, but after practicing little by little I adapted quickly. I was so happy that I could eat soft foods like bread, porridge, and steamed egg. Around the fourth week I had a follow-up check at the hospital, and the asymmetry had improved a lot. Before, when I took photos, my jaw looked tilted to one side, but now the front view looks much more natural and my facial contour is cleaner. The director said to restart orthodontic treatment, so from then on I put the braces back on and am adjusting my bite again. With gradual practice, I was able to eat almost all soft foods. And now, at 6 months, I can eat most foods and my bite is getting better little by little. The asymmetry that used to show in photos is gone, and I am very satisfied. I used to wear a mask every day because of the asymmetry, but now I go out without a mask, and my chin looks shorter, which also makes me look younger, so I am happy with that. If you are stressed by asymmetry or considering double-jaw surgery, I would recommend it.
