I had a malocclusion since childhood, but I lived with it for years. As I became an adult, chewing discomfort, TMJ noises, and facial asymmetry started to bother me more and more, so I eventually decided to have double jaw surgery. I had the surgery at the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic in Sinsa-dong with Dr. Shin, and from the consultation onward, the calm explanation of my condition, the surgical plan, and the recovery process was a big help in making such an important decision. Right after surgery, the swelling and heavy feeling were substantial, and I focused on recovery with liquid food and ice packs. I trusted that things would improve with time and waited, and by 2 to 3 months the contour started to settle. By 6 months, I was almost completely free of functional discomfort. And now, 12 months later, it really feels like this is my face. Even the last bit of swelling has settled, the facial line is clearer, and I do not need to worry much about angles when taking photos. People around me often say I look more refined, and those who do not know I had surgery can hardly tell because it looks so natural. The functional satisfaction is even greater. The habit of chewing on only one side disappeared, and the TMJ noises and fatigue feeling are almost gone. I can eat tough foods comfortably, so mealtimes are much more enjoyable. Sensation has also mostly returned, so daily life is not affected. Looking back, the period when I was debating surgery was the hardest part, but now I do not regret the decision at all. As function and balance improved together, my confidence naturally followed. If you make the decision after sufficient consultation and preparation, I believe it can definitely become a meaningful change!
