Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

One month after corrective jaw surgery and contouring surgery 2

Because of my malocclusion and underbite, I think that since I was young I have actually been more stressed about the aesthetic side than the functional discomfort. Most of the time I just brushed it off thinking I had to live like this, but as I got older I felt like my jaw was sticking out more for no reason, and every time I took photos I kept worrying about my side profile. So I decided to get orthognathic surgery because I wanted to fix it before I got even older. The hospital consultation took place at about three places, and all three gave good explanations. Still, in the end, Director Lee Seok-jae at [Clinic A] left the strongest impression. During the consultation I liked how he clearly said which parts were necessary and which were not, and when I looked at the before-and-after photos, the overall aesthetic matched the style I wanted, so I chose this hospital. The surgery was done as orthognathic surgery plus contouring surgery 2 (square jaw, chin). To be honest, after the surgery I felt so miserable at first that I wondered if I had done it for nothing... That was especially true for the first two weeks. My face was swollen like a full moon, and because I could barely move my mouth, even speaking was awkward and eating was not easy. Since I was in the no-chewing period, I couldn't chew and just had to swallow, and at some point I started to feel like I had become a master of swallowing without chewing. Since I was mainly eating porridge or liquid foods, mealtimes felt less like something enjoyable and more like something I just had to endure. After about two weeks, though, the swelling started to go down little by little. At first I didn't really feel much change, but at some point it suddenly felt like it was dropping fast. It's been about one month since the surgery now, and the major swelling has gone down a lot. Compared with the beginning, I can definitely feel that my facial line has changed. But I still have some residual swelling, so my face doesn't feel completely natural yet, and there is still a slightly awkward feeling. When I asked the hospital, the director said it still had a long way to go before the swelling would fully go down.Right now the swelling around the jaw has reduced a lot, but the cheeks and philtrum area still feel a bit puffy. Maybe that's why smiling and the shape of my mouth still feel a little unnatural at times. I think this is just the process of gradually settling in over time. They said that once the swelling is fully gone, I might get a bit of hollowing in the cheeks or nasolabial folds, but I had already taken that into account when I decided on the surgery, so I'm not too worried.Even so, just having the jaw set back definitely changed my impression a lot, and I'm satisfied with that part. When I meet people I know, they all say my face seems smaller and that it turned out more naturally than they expected, which also reassures me a bit. It's only been a month, so I still need more time before everything fully settles, but I think that as time passes the swelling will keep going down and my expressions will become more natural too. I'm waiting and watching the little changes day by day, and I hope a few more months pass quickly so it can fully stabilize.
