Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Open Bite, TMJ, and Underjaw Surgery Review!

Hello, I had double jaw surgery, square jaw surgery, and chin surgery at Y Oral Clinic around the end of September last year, and it has now been about 3 months, so I wanted to leave a review! The reason I decided to have surgery was that, more than the appearance, there seemed to be damage related to my open bite and jaw joint area, so with the advice of my orthodontist and the surgeon, I went ahead in an effort to reduce wear on my jaw even a little! Because I was not under a lot of stress about my appearance, I was actually more worried about what I would look like after surgery, since it is on the face Contrary to my worries, once the swelling went down after surgery, I became more and more satisfied and felt that I had made the right choice! First, there were many changes in my appearance! 1) Since I had a recessed chin, not having a chin tip in profile was a little bothersome, but after surgery a chin tip appeared, and I gained a little more confidence in the side view of my face:) 2) Because I had an open bite between the upper and lower jaw, my upper and lower teeth did not fit together well, so I often chewed with my molars. I am still recovering, so I cannot eat very hard foods, but for foods I can chew, I now use the front teeth more often than the molars, which feels like it puts less strain on my jaw! In addition, unlike the concerns I had before surgery, I am recovering stably, which is such a relief. It may differ from person to person, but fortunately I did not bleed much after surgery compared with others, so even after discharge I did not have major difficulty with daily life:) Lastly, speaking about the swelling process and timing: for about 3 weeks after surgery, the swelling went down very slowly and my face was quite swollen. After about 1 month and 2 weeks, just as the surgeon had said, the swelling gradually started to subside enough that daily life was not heavily affected, and from the 2-month mark onward, the swelling in areas other than the operated site had gone down a lot, so I did not need to hide it separately anymore. Now that I am almost at the 3-month mark, people around me have also said that my face has definitely become much smaller, and when viewed a little from the side, they said the contour became noticeably slimmer! To be honest, if you asked me to do it again now, I would say no. I could not. But if you have a recessed chin like me, or if your jaw-joint wear is severe and you need to do it to prevent it from getting worse, I recommend not hesitating and moving forward a bit sooner!
