I’m writing a 5-month review in the hope that it helps anyone who is thinking about jaw surgery even a little bit! I had surgery at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin.
I was born with a malocclusion where my lower jaw protruded, and facial asymmetry with my jaw deviated to the right!!! At first I went in for a consultation to get orthodontic treatment, but at several hospitals I was told that because the asymmetry and malocclusion were severe, I was a case that needed jaw surgery T_T I was young at the time and scared of surgery, so I went ahead with orthodontic treatment without surgery, but as I became an adult, my jaw pain gradually got worse, and every time I took photos the asymmetry bothered me, so in the end I decided on jaw surgery.
When I was looking into hospitals, the biggest thing for me was that I wanted surgery not at a plastic surgery clinic but at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic that specializes in jaw surgery. I carefully checked reviews and actual patient feedback from many hospitals, and Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was chosen not only because of the reviews, but also because they consistently provide information about the surgery process and other details through YouTube, which made them feel trustworthy!
Now that 5 months have passed, the major swelling is almost all gone and my facial line has settled much more naturally haha
As I continue orthodontic treatment after surgery, my bite is also getting more stable little by little, so eating has become much more comfortable, and the functional satisfaction is even greater than I expected T_T
Movements like opening my mouth wide still feel a little awkward, so I keep doing jaw exercises, but I think that will also become more natural with time! hahaha
And as the title says, the most memorable thing after surgery was when I visited my grandmother after the operation haha
She kept taking photos of me, saying my face had become really pretty, and I felt proud for no reason and thought I was really glad I had the surgery T_T
Of course I’m satisfied with the cosmetic changes too, but right now the most satisfying thing is that my bite fits well and my jaw pain has decreased, so I can live comfortably!!! I sincerely strongly recommend Dr. Shin
