Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Successful double jaw surgery for underbite and facial asymmetry after 1 year of pre-orthodontic treatment!

Hello. This is my 6-month update after double jaw surgery plus two contouring procedures (chin, square jaw). Since childhood, I had an underbite and facial asymmetry, so I tried orthodontics and even visited traditional medicine clinics, but nothing made a big difference. After much deliberation, I decided to get double jaw surgery and had the surgery at Yi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery after 1 year of pre-orthodontic treatment. I am now 6 months post-op and 1 year and 6 months into orthodontic treatment.First of all, the first month after surgery was the hardest. Once the first month passed, I had the wafer removed and could eat food relatively freely, which made daily life much more comfortable. Looking back now, from the second month onward, I barely remember anything that was especially difficult. Now that it has been 6 months and the bones have healed well, and I have fully adjusted to my face after surgery, I want to share a more realistic story.I was worried early on because the swelling did not go down easily. I do not know whether it was due to my constitution or because I stayed home a lot and was not very active, but even now there is still a sense of volume around my double chin and buccal area that I cannot tell is swelling or fat. People usually say that by 6 months, about 90% of the swelling is gone, but my face did not look as slim as I had expected.Of course, I hear a lot that my face has become much smaller, and just looking at the CT and other bone images, I am 200% satisfied. Still, from actually going through it, I realized that even if the bones are made smaller and more symmetrical, the final facial shape is influenced quite a lot by the skin, fat, and remaining swelling. I think it would be good for people considering surgery to know this in advance. After the pin removal is finished, I plan to get face-shaping care such as lifting laser treatments. And in the early stage after surgery, saliva kept flowing and I was wearing a wafer, so I could not close my mouth well, and I think I unconsciously developed the habit of tensing my jaw. Because of that, the muscles in my chin became very tight, and my chin felt thicker than before surgery. The director also told me that muscle Botox might help relax the muscles. I think it would be good to keep in mind in advance that there can be small post-op care expenses like this that you may not expect.Even so, if someone asked me, “Would you rather live the rest of your life with a double chin after surgery, or with an underbite before surgery?” I would choose surgery without hesitation. That is how high my overall satisfaction with the surgery is!In fact, the points I wrote above are the biggest regrets I personally feel, and people around me hardly notice them. In other reviews, I often saw people say, “Friends they had not seen in a while did not even realize they had surgery.” After going through it myself, I really found that to be true. It settled so naturally that it was kind of amazing to me.I had already planned for pin removal from before surgery, so I am now looking ahead to the pin-removal surgery at month 7. I want to get the pins removed as soon as possible, finish orthodontic treatment well, and continue taking care of my facial line so I can get an even more satisfying result!
