I’ve had an open bite since I was young, so eating was always uncomfortable In particular, foods like noodles or meat that you have to cut with your front teeth were hard to eat properly, and I naturally ended up using my molars more, so the discomfort kept going. As time went by, I started becoming aware not only of the functional side of eating, but also of the outward appearance, like a protruding lower jaw. I would become self-conscious when taking photos or smiling, and my confidence dropped a lot, so I decided to have jaw surgery because I wanted to improve both the functional issues and my cosmetic complex at the same time!! The biggest reason was my family’s recommendation haha. My younger brother had jaw surgery first at Lee Goo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and watching the process and recovery up close naturally built my trust. During the consultation too, Director Kim Jong-yoon explained my skeletal condition and bite in detail, and carefully guided me through the surgical plan and recovery process, which made me feel reassured haha. He also kindly explained each question I had one by one, so after the consultation I felt certain that this was the place I should have the surgery!! It’s already been 4 months since the surgery!! Right after the operation, I worried a lot about when I’d be able to eat and live comfortably, but now daily life is definitely much more natural haha. The biggest change is still eating!! Starting from month 2, I began eating rice and noodles, and I felt things had improved a lot, and now I can even eat soft meat, so the range of foods I can eat has really widened haha. In particular, before surgery, because of the open bite, it was hard to cut noodles with my front teeth, but now I can use my front teeth naturally, which I still find amazing and satisfying I’m regaining the joy of eating as actions I couldn’t do naturally before are now possible!! The swelling has also gone down a lot compared with the beginning haha. Because I look at my face every day, there are times I don’t feel a big difference, but compared with the photos right after surgery, I can feel that my facial line has become much more natural! I think there are still parts that will improve as more time passes, so I’m even more excited for what’s ahead haha. I’ve also been steadily practicing opening my mouth, and now I can fit about three fingers comfortably!! At first, just opening my mouth felt awkward, but now it’s much more comfortable, and I can feel the recovery progressing step by step. Another good change is that I can start exercising again haha. After the surgery I focused on recovery, but now my condition has improved a lot, so I’m slowly getting back into light exercise first. It feels good to be returning to daily life like before!! Looking back, the first week after surgery felt really long, but as time passed, it seems my body was recovering little by little and in a clear way. Going through months 2 and 3, I could directly feel the changes getting better, and now in month 4, my feeling that I made the right decision to have surgery is growing more and more haha. It’s not fully at the final stage of recovery yet, but even with the changes so far, I’m very satisfied, and I’m looking forward to becoming even more natural in the future!! I’m going to keep taking care of the remaining recovery process steadily without rushing 😊
