Hello. It has been 6 months since my jaw surgery and contouring surgery for underbite (square jaw and chin). Before surgery, the underbite was my biggest concern. Since late elementary school, I could see my jaw gradually protruding, and my bite was not aligned, so it was functionally uncomfortable, but honestly the stress about my appearance was even bigger. In the past, when I took a picture, my jaw was the first thing I noticed, but now that stress is almost gone. There were changes I never expected too. Before the jaw surgery, maybe because of the structural problem, I always slept with my mouth open, and every morning my mouth and throat were so dry that finding water first thing was part of my routine. But after the surgery, I naturally started sleeping with my mouth closed, and the symptom of waking up with a dry mouth and throat has almost completely disappeared. This was an unexpected change, so it felt even more amazing, and personally it is one of the most satisfying parts. The recovery process was much better than I expected. The internet reviews made it sound extremely difficult, so I was very nervous, but for me the hardest part was not the pain itself but not being able to eat what I wanted freely. The swelling went down a little more slowly than for other people, so I did feel impatient, but as time passed it definitely became more natural, and now I think only a little residual swelling remains. There were days when it felt like the swelling came back a bit, but it would settle down again with time, and looking back now, I think that was also part of the recovery process. At present, daily life has fully recovered. I can do all ordinary activities like meals, going out, and exercise without any problems, and there are almost no inconveniences in daily life. Post-surgery orthodontics is still in progress, but it does not interfere with my daily life at all. My satisfaction is truly 100 out of 100. Of course, I thought about whether to decide on surgery for a very long time and I was scared too, but now I feel like, 'It would have been fine even if I had done it a little earlier.' Because the functional part improved, and my appearance and confidence also improved, it was one of the most satisfying decisions in my life. I still have post-surgery orthodontics left, so I need to wait a little longer for the final result, but even now at 6 months I can feel it becoming a little more natural each month, so I am even more looking forward to what comes next.
