Nose Re-Surgery

Review of Non-Open Revision Rhinoplasty (Photo of Removed Silicone Included)

My first surgery was 7 years ago, when I had rhinoplasty using silicone and ear cartilage. The reason I started looking into removal was that the silicone felt very foreign, and the starting point was so high that anyone could tell it was a surgical nose.. The tip dropped quickly, probably because it used ear cartilage, and even though I had spent both money and time on it, it felt worse than before, so I was under a lot of stress. Because I was upset, my parents seriously asked whether I should consider removal and said they would help with the cost, so I started looking into it.At first, I thought that if I only removed the silicone, the nose shape would probably return to something similar to before.. But after going through consultations, I learned that was not the caseMost clinics said to remove the silicone but open the nose and use autologous costal cartilage to improve the overall shape, and I felt too burdened by the idea of using rib cartilage to make a quick decision. Then I had a consultation at VN, and they told me about two surgical methods!(1) Open surgery with silicone removal + rib cartilage use, (2) If I wanted the minimum correction, remove the silicone non-open and restore it using only ear cartilage... They said option 1 was for dramatic changes, but if I was worried about using rib cartilage and the recovery, then option 2 was better. Actually, improving the nose shape was also important, so during the consultation I said I wanted to fix the pinched-nose feeling too, but they said that would only be possible with open surgery.. So I gave up on that and proceeded non-open in the hope that at least the bridge and tip would become natural.Throughout the consultation, I also felt that the director himself was very meticulous, and because he clearly explained the parts that were impossible, I thought he was not just talking vaguely. For removal and reconstruction, the cost was higher than my first surgery anywhere I looked.. but more important than money was getting my nose back to normal, so I chose based on professionalism first. The surgery was not difficult, and because ear cartilage was used again this time, sleeping was uncomfortable for the first two days and I could not sleep properly, tossing and turning... The throbbing and swelling felt similar to the first surgery, but just knowing there was no silicone in my nose gave me psychological relief. If I had had open surgery elsewhere and used rib cartilage too, maybe it could have been a more glamorous and pretty nose. But what I wanted was not just a pretty nose, I wanted good durability and a shape that would not look obviously unnatural to anyone That is why I am so happy in that sense. I had never even considered going fully non-open, but it was great that Director Oh Seung-il suggested a new method. And I was also able to receive photos of the removed silicone from the hospital, and when I suddenly thought that an artificial implant had been in my nose, it honestly scared meI think that was also because I had not researched it properly back then.... If only I had looked into it better and done it with my own cartilage only, I would have liked that better. Anyway, the removal was completed safely, and unless a problem comes up, I do not plan to have nose surgery again!Right now I do not feel any foreign-body sensation and I am so, so comfortable
