Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Long face that even braces couldn't fix: double-jaw surgery review (including swelling, satisfaction, etc.)

Hello. It’s been 3 months since I had double-jaw surgery at Ssro~! Ever since elementary school, I had a long face shape with a long jaw, and I wanted to improve it through orthodontic treatment, but since surgery was said to be difficult when I was a student, I only did orthodontics. In high school, a friend made fun of my jaw, so even though I wanted surgery once I became an adult, I couldn’t go through with it because of the high cost. Even after that, I had a complex about my long jaw, which made my face look long when I wore turtlenecks in winter, and my side profile stood out in photos, but I kept telling myself there was nothing I could do about it and that I had to live with the way I looked. But after entering society and starting work, I got teased about my jaw again, and I felt so sad that even as an adult, if people want to tease you, they will. I had planned to get surgery before it was too late once I had enough spare money, and after 12 years as an adult, I was finally able to have the surgery at Y-Gu Oral Surgery, where I had double-jaw surgery and contouring surgery type 2 (square jaw, chin). Since it’s now the 3-month mark, the swelling was definitely still there up to 2 months, but from 3 months it has visibly gone down, and now it has become so natural that no one would know unless I said I had surgery. Friends I hadn’t seen in a while said I looked like I had lost weight, but that’s not it, so they were like, huh, what is it..? haha The recovery process was: - Right after surgery: I knew it was a major surgery, but I had no idea it would be this hard. By day 5 I felt so uncomfortable and exhausted that I thought, “Am I going to die like this..” - One week later: They say it’s a miracle at 7 days, and really, once a week had passed, I felt so much better. Of course it still hurt and felt uncomfortable, but compared to a week earlier, it was a little easier, so I was at least somewhat okay. - One month in: As time passed, I kept getting better, and by around one month I could only barely manage daily life. I ate porridge and Newcare. I was worried about any problems with my jaw, so I ate as many soft foods as possible. - Two months in: Walking too much was tiring, so I limited it to about an hour. Still, I was definitely better than at one month, and by then I could even eat rice soaked in soup. They said I could eat hamburger steak, but I was too scared and anxious, so even after that I kept eating mostly soft foods like Newcare or mashed potato salad. Even at 2 months I was still careful with meals. That’s how I’d sum it up, and now at 3 months I’m doing a bit of running and some strength training too. I still can’t bite hard with my own teeth, but I can bite into soft things, and I’m mostly eating normal meals. Anything a bit hard to chew, I cut into small pieces, and I can eat most foods now. Thanks to that, the 5 kg I lost before surgery has come back I still feel a tight, stiff sensation in my lips, around my mouth, and in my jaw muscles. I guess it’ll keep getting better with time, right? Everyone also asked me about satisfaction. Before the swelling went down, it really felt like I’d been stung by a bee, but now that it’s been 3 months and the swelling has definitely gone down (about 70%), I think my satisfaction is going up even more. Personally, I wished the jaw length could have been reduced a bit more, but when I asked the hospital, they said the current surgical length is the most ideal, so I’m just waiting for the swelling to go down even more from here. A double-jaw surgery in my life... When I tell people around me, they say I made a really big decision, but since I’d wanted surgery since I was so young, I don’t think I really saw it as such a huge operation. But it made me feel like if I set my mind to something, I can do anything, and I’m glad I went to the hospital and made the reservation and went through with it then. Now, no matter who I meet, I don’t have to be embarrassed because of my jaw length, and I feel like I can meet people confidently. Every day I feel relieved thinking, so this is what a normal person’s face feels like. - The cost of surgery is not small, and because the rest and recovery period after surgery is long as well (1-2 months, and recovery overall around 6 months), it’s a major operation, but I think it’s a truly grateful surgery that improved the complex I had worried about for my whole life. Having the technology of double-jaw surgery improved my life a little more, and I’m grateful to the doctor who performed the surgery. And I’m also grateful to myself for having the courage to do it Now I can hardly remember what my face looked like before surgery, and this face feels like my own. The swelling will keep going down, and I’ll keep living my daily life in peace while recovering. Thank you.
