Review: revision surgery for severe inflammation and contracture nose with autologous dermis

Hi, about 17 years ago I had nose surgery so thoughtlessly (silicone + ear cartilage) (really, I didn't look into anything at all, just said “Doctor, please do a good job” and flopped down on the operating table) and lived fine, but the area starting from the bridge of the nose (between the eyebrows) would turn red, then settle, hurt when pressed, then settle again, repeating a few times. I kept thinking it would pass, but then inflammation developed in the mucous membrane inside my nose, and that also kept getting bigger and smaller. Recently it got so big that I went to several ENT clinics. At one ENT clinic they said it seemed to be because of the silicone, and asked, “You used L-shaped silicone, right?” I said I wasn't sure.. and after answering that, I heard “you should remove it quickly,” and thought, wow, this is serious. So I started going to nearby plastic surgery clinics for consultations, and from then on I started searching about revision rhinoplasty.Anyway, I didn't go to consultations in Seoul and only went to places that were actually easy for me to get to and from, but most of them recommended removing the silicone first and then doing revision with silicone again after 6 months. But the ENT doctor said putting silicone in again was not recommended, and I also didn't want silicone again in case I'd have to remove it again someday. So I was torn between a place that said they could make it like an implant out of autologous cartilage and a hospital that said autologous dermis was also an option if I didn't want silicone. But I didn't want donated cartilage either, and I didn't want to remove my own costal cartilage, so what was left was autologous dermis. The problem was that the doctor at the clinic I consulted didn't seem to specialize in autologous dermis lol. So I searched and found that there were famous places in Suwon and Apgujeong. I immediately booked consultations at both places, and due to my schedule I went to Suwon first.The conclusion was that I paid the deposit and went ahead right after the consultation lol. The doctor had really devoted himself to autologous dermis, and I don't usually travel far, but because of the nature of the material I felt I should do it at a hospital that specializes in it, so even though it was far I just decided.I had severe inflammation and contracture had started, so the plan was to first remove everything and decide on a second surgery after checking the condition (they said we might not be able to do the next step immediately because the inflammation was so severe). But I thought it would be okay, and had the second-stage dermis surgery 5 days later.Because the inflammation in the first surgery was severe, they had to scrape everything out, so I’m sure the doctor had a hard time, but I was in pain too and kept asking for more injections lol.Here, anesthesia isn’t done continuously with sedation; they use local anesthesia and briefly put you to sleep, then wake you up. Maybe that’s why the second stage was easier than expected. For the second stage, they first took dermis from my butt, then laid me down again, numbed my nose, designed the dermis, and performed the surgery.After the second surgery I visited the clinic several more times for treatment, and last week the final stitches from inside my nose and from my butt were removed. Now I’m approaching week 3, and I’m hoping the nose will hold on and take well.The current shape is pleasing to me, but I’ll only know how much it gets absorbed after about a year... lol It’s a material with very clear pros and cons, so a lot of people will hesitate, but please think it through a lot and go to consultations. My inflammation was severe and I really didn't want another revision, so that was a big factor.Ah, if you do go through with it, I think it would be better to do the second surgery after your period ends. Luckily I got away with it, but if you have butt issues and your period on top of that, it would be awful lol.That’s the end of my self-paid nose review. Thanks for reading my trivial post.
