I have been very worried about the epicanthal fold since I was young... so I had epicanthoplasty to fix it, but the fold became even worse. I wondered if I should get revision epicanthoplasty, so I went around consulting hospitals that specialize in reversal procedures, but they all said the epicanthal fold could not be removed. Then I read the promotional post for a surgery called medial canthoplasty at this hospital, and it seemed like the right operation for me, so I moved ahead with consultation and had surgery quickly. I had truly never seen anyone with a more severe epicanthal fold than mine, but it disappeared as if by magic. Of course, when you gain something, you also lose something. I had quite a bit of aegyo-sal, but only one third of it remained, and because of the scar tissue at the inner corner of my eye, vertical wrinkles appear there when I smile. And since they had cut away the epicanthal fold that had been there originally, a noticeable white scar was left in that spot. It would have been nice if they had told me about these side effects in advance, but I also did not ask... More than anything, I found that I actually do not suit eyes without an epicanthal fold as much as I thought. After living with it for decades and suddenly having it removed, my face felt awkward, my midface felt longer, and my expressions felt uncomfortable. I was happy that the epicanthal fold that had stressed me out the most was gone, but because there is loss as well as gain, more difficult side effects followed... I really felt that cosmetic surgery is not something to do lightly, and that there is a reason other surgeons do not perform certain operations. Epicanthoplasty is truly a risky surgery. If it goes wrong, it is very hard to reverse, so everyone should think carefully before doing it... You also need to think very deeply about whether the area you want to change and the shape you want actually suit your face...
