Currently Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment

It was only mild protrusion, but my mouth wouldn’t close comfortably, so I would keep it open, and when I closed it, I had to tense up. Because of that, the walnut-like dimpling on my chin was much larger and more noticeable than other people’s. When I was taking an ID photo at a photo studio, they told me to close my mouth. When I closed it, they told me to smile. When I smiled, they told me not to smile unnaturally and to relax. But I can’t relax my chin and smile..

So after only worrying about it for several years, I started orthodontic treatment.

It’s been about 2 years since I started treatment now, and unfortunately I did develop nasolabial folds, but I’m still satisfied that I got orthodontic treatment. I like the wrinkles that form now like dimples much more than the mouth shape that made me look wronged or upset.

I think I made several good choices: I had an examination and confirmed that my tooth roots were not short before deciding (the dental clinic checked this first, so I was able to verify it carefully), I lowered the cost by choosing metal braces (about 4 million KRW including 2 years of monthly treatment fees, around 2.7 million KRW excluding monthly treatment fees), and I didn’t force extractions because they didn’t suit my situation.

I’ve seen cases where people regretted forcing orthodontic treatment despite poor dental health, or being too ambitious about major tooth movement. I hope you think it over thoroughly, get consultations, and make a decision that suits your own situation well!!
