Facial asymmetry had been a concern for me for a long time, but I thought it could be covered enough with things like meridian massage, fat grafting, and so on, so I had so many procedures done.
In the end, I felt that surgery was the answer for my square jaw, cheekbones, and asymmetry, so I had surgery.
It was something I had worried about for a long time, for over 20 years... so my decision to get surgery happened suddenly, and in the end, in May 2022, I looked for hospitals, booked a consultation right away without thinking or fear, and had surgery just 2 weeks later.
I was crazy... not thinking I could die... I was really crazy for getting surgery just because I wanted to fix the asymmetry quickly, without even looking into how dangerous it was...
Anyway, while looking on Naver, I found surgery review information on YouTube (more about how the surgery is done and what double jaw surgery is, rather than about a hospital).
I thought I probably wouldn’t need double jaw surgery, and went to the hospital to get a consultation for cheekbone and square jaw surgery.
It is famous for double jaw surgery, but I prioritize private clinics over famous franchises, and even among private clinics, I thought a doctor who writes diligently on a blog, has a firm philosophy, is confident, and writes many papers would be trustworthy.
So I chose this place. The director’s consultation was really cursory, and he skipped where and how I had problems, what surgical method he would use, and what would happen as a result. He just said I needed double jaw surgery, and that cheekbone or square jaw surgery alone wouldn’t work. He said that was just his interpretation. I figured the doctor would do a good job and said okay.
Then I discussed the surgery cost with the consultation manager, said I would pay in cash, and scheduled the surgery for 2 weeks later. Because of my schedule, I had to do it quickly.
Anyway, I had it during a holiday period. Because I have weak stamina, I wanted to be hospitalized for 2 days, and they said they would do that, but because of their holiday schedule, they just discharged me after 1 day.
But after surgery, I was in so much pain and didn’t even understand what anyone was saying, and they said there wasn’t anything the hospital could do for me anyway, so I just went home. But seriously, I struggled so, so, so, so, so, so, so much at home, and because of that I was exhausted and annoyed.
Anyway, the nurses and manager were very kind. The manager who consulted with me had a good tone and manner, but she knew too little about the surgery.... It felt like the reason they gave me a discount was because she was a beginner consultation manager and the director was somehow being considerate? And since I paid in cash, they probably benefited hugely because they didn’t have to process tens of millions of won in sales for tax...
Anyway, the surgery was completed safely, and although the recovery process was hard, it was definitely more comfortable after surgery than hospitals that tie your mouth shut. Other places tie the mouth shut for weeks (I forgot what it’s called), but here that period was short, which was very good. Right after the surgery, during the first week, I thought if they tied my mouth shut, a person might really feel like dying. But here, they don’t tie it during the first week.... Once you have the surgery, you realize how enormous that is.
For months, my face was extremely swollen, and I couldn’t eat rice and mostly had drinks, so it was really hard.
But as expected, time is medicine, so I gradually recovered.
Then, after the swelling went down, I started to feel the square jaw asymmetry I had seen on the postoperative X-ray even more. When I first talked about it, they said the bones would settle into place and become symmetric (the dentist said the same thing, so I thought it was really true), but even after 6 months, it was still the same.
So I went to the hospital, took another X-ray, and talked about it. (Because if I risked dying and spent tens of millions of won on surgery to fix asymmetry, shouldn’t at least the operated area be symmetric? If they weren’t going to make it symmetric, why would I be crazy enough to have surgery? My face wasn’t even big, and it’s not like I was going to become a celebrity just because my face got smaller.) They said when removing the pins, they would slightly grind and shave it down.
So I decided to pay another 1.5 million won and get pin removal surgery, but on the day of surgery, they changed their words again. They said it would be hidden by soft tissue from the front anyway, so it wouldn’t show, and it would only be felt by hand. Because it wouldn’t be visible to the naked eye, they would just remove the pinsㅡㅡ
But since I had been arguing with this doctor from before, and he always did things his own way, I just gave up.
I went in with the mindset of just removing the pins and ending it.
No matter how excellent someone’s skills are, I think it is also a doctor’s responsibility to reduce the patient’s anxiety and mental suffering, but I felt that doctor had no such sense of responsibility.
Anyway, because the nurses and manager were kind, I decided to stop being angry.
Now it has been one week since the pin removal. They cut open the area that had already been cut before, and because I have had major surgery several times (after double jaw surgery, I also had a disc procedure and was in pain again), maybe my body can’t endure it. It keeps swelling and hurting.
But.... the important thing is... As my facial bones are gradually settling asymmetrically, my nasal asymmetry has become very severe.... It has become completely crooked. I originally had a deviated nose, but as all the facial muscles shifted, it completely lost its position, and the deviation suddenly became worse.....
So the reason I came into this community today is to find information for another revision rhinoplasty.
My nose was originally low and crooked, which is why I had surgery, but since they didn’t solve the underlying issue and just placed silicone on top, it keeps becoming crooked....
So this time, I’m really going to research properly before getting surgery.
Because now I’m gradually realizing the risks of surgery, and I realized how incredibly fortunate I was to have had no surgical side effects.
They could suddenly happen this time, so this time I’m really going to look into it carefully... I won’t be greedy and try to make my nose too high. Since my face has gotten smaller anyway, just like IU can look cute even with a low nose, I came here planning to correct the asymmetry, and to do it within a natural range that won’t cause side effects, rather than getting a very flashy nose.
Because this is my third nose surgery, I’m so scared, so even though it was really bothersome, I joined this community and am leaving this post. I should pray that I can get proper information this time.
(I’m not recommending double jaw surgery, but it is definitely nice that my face got smaller.... A pretty face isn’t everything, but I make a living with my face, so I have to keep caring about my face... because I have to stand in front of cameras... Unless it’s really for something like this, there is truly no need to get surgery.........as long as it isn’t repulsive......ugh!!!!)
The dental clinic connected with this place was also very kind and good. Anyway, I acknowledge the surgical skill...... Compared with how major the surgery is, the facilities and such are very small and don’t really match, but I think it’s very good that the doctor tries hard to study and build his skills. It is nice to hear people around me say I’ve gotten prettier.
Anyway... please choose double jaw surgery carefully~~~~ I always think I was lucky. I think it was heavenly luck that I had no side effects and could return to daily life this quickly with this level of recovery. At the hospital where I received the disc procedure, they told me my body was very shocked. Even under sedation for the procedure, my body was startled and moved too much. They said this is a reaction that appears when the body remembers pain from a major surgery... Surgery that literally cuts bone is truly major surgery, so I hope you decide very carefully.
