Hello! As someone who had facial contouring surgery first, I now wish I had looked into double-jaw surgery sooner, lol! Even after contouring surgery, my protruding chin—the thing that had stressed me out most—still bothered me, so I ultimately had double-jaw surgery with Dr. Kim Jong-yoon at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. Since contouring was my second time, I guess it could be called revision surgery! Anyway, I had both double-jaw and contouring procedures, and I am now three months post-op! I had many worries before surgery, but perhaps because I have recently returned to almost all of my normal daily life, time seems to have passed faster than expected haha. I had been stressed by my protruding chin and facial asymmetry for over 10 years, since middle school. My profile especially bothered me more than my front view; every time I looked in the mirror or took photos, my protruding chin kept catching my eye T_T. Rather than taking photos naturally, I would only look for angles where I appeared somewhat better. As that kept happening for a long time, I think it greatly affected my confidence in my appearance! At first, I underwent contouring surgery because I wanted to resolve these concerns!! I thought contouring alone would improve things, but the protruding-chin appearance that bothered me most did not change much.
As time passed, I came to think that, in my case, I should have considered double-jaw surgery along with contouring rather than trying to resolve it with contouring surgery alone. I also regretted not learning about the difference between double-jaw surgery and contouring surgery sooner T_T. So this time, rather than simply changing my facial line, I decided on double-jaw surgery because I wanted to fundamentally improve the protruding chin and asymmetry that had stressed me for so long! The things I considered most important when researching hospitals were function and safety. Since double-jaw surgery addresses both the jawbones and occlusion, I focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery departments this time. Rather than wanting a dramatic, doll-like transformation, I wanted a style that preserved the overall feel of my original face while naturally improving only what was lacking! During my consultation, Dr. Kim Jong-yoon explained my condition and the surgical plan without exaggeration. Rather than insisting on a major transformation, he spoke about improving the necessary areas, which suited the style I wanted very well haha. I also felt that he would not recommend unnecessary or excessive procedures, so I thought it over carefully before deciding on surgery!
At one month, I properly compared my before-and-after photos at the hospital for the first time. There was still a lot of swelling from the front, so the sides of my face even seemed larger than before surgery, but when I looked at my profile photo, the previously protruding jawline had tucked right in, which was so amazing haha. Since my profile had been what stressed me the most before surgery, I was extremely happy with the side-view change!!!! After the screws were removed, my quality of life improved greatly as well. I only had to wear the wafer while sleeping, so I could live much more comfortably, and much of the discomfort in daily life decreased haha. Above all, looking in the mirror became enjoyable every day haha. When I compared it with photos taken at three weeks, I could see that my face looked much more natural at one month, and I think this was when I often began thinking I should have done it sooner. At two months, I finally returned to work, and the comment I heard most often was that I had become really pretty. People also often said that my face looked younger and my overall impression much softer, and quite a few people asked for hospital information! haha. Even at two months, so much swelling had gone down that I was amazed too. Most of all, I love that the natural feel of my face from before surgery remains. My ideal was to become naturally prettier while still looking like myself, rather than having a face that looked dramatically different to anyone, and it was exactly the direction I wanted, so I was satisfied haha.
Also, I used to always edit my lower face to look smaller in Photoshop whenever I posted photos T_T. Not having to make those edits anymore feels like a much bigger change than I expected. I have finally entered my third month, when major swelling is said to subside substantially, and lately I genuinely feel as though I am living through my peak looks era, so I am happy every day hahaha. As the stress over my protruding chin, which had bothered me for over 10 years, has greatly decreased, I feel much lighter emotionally and my self-esteem seems to have risen naturally as well. It feels as if even my mental health has improved through cosmetic surgery haha. These days, I drink alcohol, eat meat, and do Pilates, and I have returned to almost all of my normal routine. I do not feel any major inconvenience in daily life because of the double-jaw and contouring surgery either! The blocked-ear sensation I had during recovery also disappeared naturally. I still occasionally have a tingling sensation around my right lip, chin, and philtrum, but it is not severe enough to bother me much in daily life, so I am waiting, thinking this will gradually recover too!!! I am only three months post-op from double-jaw surgery, so I will need to watch my progress further. But so far, I am most satisfied that the profile and jawline that had stressed me for so long have changed naturally T_TTTT. Compared with before surgery, simply no longer editing my lower face smaller in photos or searching for a flattering angle first has made me feel so much more at ease, and I love it so much :)
