Review of protruding mouth orthodontic treatment from a long time ago (Busan)

A long time ago... I was stressed about my protruding mouth, so after being introduced to a dental clinic in Busan that people in the neighborhood said was good, I had extraction orthodontic treatment there. I had braces for 3 years, but my protruding mouth didn’t improve much. To what extent? Even after the orthodontic treatment, people around me would often ask whether I should consider getting braces. Around the time the treatment was ending, I asked the doctor why my mouth hadn’t gone in much, and they said my teeth were shaped as if they were lifted, so they couldn’t move them in any further. They definitely hadn’t said anything like that before treatment.

These days I’m visiting hospitals known for protruding mouth surgery and getting consultations. They say that because my gums protrude, it’s the type of mouth that won’t improve with orthodontics alone and needs surgery together. At one hospital, they said even just genioplasty for a receding chin would improve it a lot.

Diagnoses vary completely from hospital to hospital, so if you’re thinking of getting orthodontic treatment, I think it’s best to visit several hospitals, at least 5 or more, before deciding.

Back then, it wasn’t easy to get information like this, so thinking back now, it’s devastating that I only listened to word of mouth, went to just one dental clinic, and decided right away. It ended up being a waste of money and time. I hope everyone reading this makes a good choice.
