Only bone-shaving surgery instead of double-jaw surgery for facial asymmetry

Since I was young, I only chewed on one side, so my facial asymmetry was severe. I thought it was just a muscle problem, but when I had photos taken, it turned out one temporomandibular joint was completely damaged and the bone had become misaligned. The maxillary bone was also misaligned, but I didn’t have malocclusion, so I had no problem chewing food. I had consultations at a university hospital plastic surgery department and dental department. The plastic surgery department said I didn’t necessarily need double-jaw surgery and suggested just slightly shaving the bone on the protruding side, while the dental department said it was too misaligned and that double-jaw surgery was necessary. Because the asymmetry was severe, I did need double-jaw surgery, but since the root cause was a joint problem, I didn’t think satisfaction would be very high even if I had double-jaw surgery. It was also such a major surgery that I was scared, so I just had the jawbone on the protruding side shaved slightly. I thought the pain from shaving bone would be intense, but fortunately, after surgery the sensory nerves were also numb, so it really didn’t hurt much. The asymmetry is still severe now, but many people don’t notice unless they look closely, so I’m going to live satisfied with this much. People who endured double-jaw surgery well are really amazing.
