Today I went for a consultation at [Clinic A], and after a CT scan, I was told I cannot use autologous costal cartilage because of calcification of my rib cartilage, and was only advised to have everything removed.. But they said that even if everything is removed, because my nostrils have become upturned due to contracture, there is no solution other than autologous costal cartilage, so my nostrils would remain visibly upturned even after total removal. They told me never to use donor rib cartilage.. They said other places may recommend donor rib cartilage, but absolutely not to have surgery using it T_T I went there with high hopes, but came back hearing only about total removal, which I had never expected, so I feel depressed.. Would it be the same everywhere else, that autologous rib cartilage is not possible? Should I perhaps go to [Clinic B] just in case.. Since they dice it and use it, I am wondering to myself whether they could gather and use portions that have not calcified.. I live far away, so I would have to make a major decision to go. T_T It has been about 20 years since my surgery; should I just live with it... Or should I just have everything removed even if the upturned nose cannot be fixed... It is so stressful.
