Just before being discharged from the military, timed to my discharge date, I had double-jaw surgery with [Doctor A] at [Clinic A], and I have already been discharged!! It has now been two months since surgery lol! It feels like only yesterday that I was stressed about my underbite, but these days I take off my mask and move around comfortably. Since high school, I had been diagnosed with Class III malocclusion because of my underbite. As an adult, I had an orthodontic consultation and was told that moving my jaw back with orthodontics alone would be difficult and surgery would be needed, so I decided on surgical orthodontics. While undergoing preoperative orthodontics, my existing underbite looked even more pronounced, and I was truly very stressed, especially while serving in the military. The things I heard most were, “You look dissatisfied” and “You look scary,” and I was often given nicknames related to my jaw. I also worried about my jaw first whenever taking photos… haha. I am naturally quite cheerful, but I kept hearing that I looked scary at first impression because of my appearance, both at school and in the military, and it hurt more than I expected. So I decided to have double-jaw surgery timed to my discharge. Before my first consultation, I only thought that I wanted my underbite improved and my jaw moved back a little.
During consultations with [Doctor A] and the consultation manager at [Clinic A], I was able to hear how the surgery would proceed, the clinic facilities and intraoperative safety system, and how postoperative recovery and care would be managed, which reassured me! In particular, [Doctor A] understood my face shape and what I wanted well, and explained the surgical plan confidently, so I chose [Clinic A]. At one month after surgery, I was well enough to walk around without a mask!! Before surgery, I would look at the ground when walking through busy streets and avoided crowded places, but now I move around more confidently than before. Around this time, people kept asking if I had my eyes or nose done too, and I even wondered whether my nose had always been this high haha. I think my overall impression changed because my jaw moved back. Above all, I used to hear a lot at school and in the military that I looked scary, but after surgery my impression looks much gentler, and I am truly satisfied with that. And now it has been a little over two months. People in reviews say that things get better if you just endure the first month after double-jaw surgery, and I do not think they say that for no reason. At first my nose would get blocked and my jaw hurt when eating, but those inconveniences are gone now and I am managing everyday life well. If anything, I have been eating noticeably more lately, which is enough to be my concern ^^;; I only had surgery at [Clinic A], and I am continuing my postoperative orthodontics at the orthodontic clinic I had already been attending! At my recent appointment, my orthodontist saw my progress and said the surgery had gone very well, adding that surgeons in Seoul are certainly skilled, which made me feel good haha. Once the residual swelling goes down a little more and my face settles more naturally, I want to replace even my old ID photo as soon as possible with my upgraded current appearance haha.
