I’m planning a third eyelid surgery because of sausage eyes + scarring, and after going around for consultations, opinions are split like this:
Two-line technique (2 places): no extra skin, absolutely must do the two-line technique. Excision is absolutely not possible, need to lower by 1 mm, no scar improvement, no ptosis correction/eye-shape correction.
1-2 mm excision (2 places): if the adhesions are released, 1-2 mm of skin can be excised (they plan to cut only skin and release the adhesions inside, with no muscle excision). They said once the adhesions are released, there will be extra skin, so excision won’t cause side effects like lagophthalmos, eye-shape correction slightly (need to open and see), scar improvement about 50%.
After searching hard online, the places that recommended the two-line technique seem to recommend it to almost all revision patients, and the doctors are younger compared with the places that recommended excision. They examined the eyes very meticulously.
For the places that told me to do excision, based on what I found online, they had noticeably fewer reviews for the two-line technique. They have at least 20 years of experience and are somewhat older. Their eye diagnosis was less meticulous than the hospitals recommending the two-line technique (to put it positively, it felt like they completed the diagnosis as soon as they saw me).
Of course I want excision, but the two-line-technique hospitals said it in a way that made it sound like I absolutely must not do excision, so it really bothers me. Has anyone heard opinions like mine? Please comment on what you chose.
Oh, the places that recommended excision were 500,000-1,000,000 won more expensive than the two-line-technique hospitals.
