Honestly, I was not very interested in my face, but people around me often said that my impression changed as my jaw started protruding from around my second year of middle school. Because of that, I gradually started paying attention to it, and after COVID, as I relied more on masks, my concerns about double jaw surgery grew deeper. After the college entrance exam, I tried to avoid surgery as much as possible while getting orthodontic treatment, but I could not get the dramatic change I wanted, so I eventually chose double jaw surgery. When looking for hospitals, I mainly searched for well-known places in Seoul with good reviews, especially places with no accidents, and one of them was EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Director Kim Jong-yoon told me that rather than designing everything unconditionally according to trends, he proceeds in a patient-centered way, which made me trust him, and after the consultation I decided to have surgery. From right after surgery until the first week, I was really out of it. For the first 2-3 days, the dizziness was so severe that even going to the bathroom was difficult, and it was hard to swallow water. The swelling seemed to get worse day by day, and sleeping was very hard because of the stuffiness. Still, I learned that walking helped, so from day 4, I tried to walk steadily as much as my stamina allowed. In week 2, after the stitches were removed, I gradually felt freer, and being able to brush my teeth was the best part haha. The bruising also faded enough that I could go out without a hat. At 1 month, there was no major change, but I kept walking. At 2 months, I could eat most foods, but the swelling still remained soft and puffy. At 3-4 months, recovery was noticeable enough that I could even eat hamburgers, but the swelling was going down slowly enough that people around me could still notice it. And finally, month 6! Honestly, now I have no discomfort at all except for the swelling. When planning double jaw surgery, decreased sensation was my biggest concern, but right after surgery, only the roof of my mouth had no sensation, and it gradually returned over time. Thankfully, it has almost recovered a lot now haha. Also, I finished orthodontic treatment, so brushing my teeth has become really easy, which is a big happiness. However, the swelling is still there, so I am a bit worn out. Especially around the philtrum and nose, it is still very puffy, so I just hope it goes down quickly. Still, I can definitely see that the swelling around my cheekbones has gone down, so that gives me hope! In many reviews, people said swelling starts going down quickly from month 6, and I want to be part of that lineup too ^^!! To sum up, from right after surgery until month 5, it was a recovery process where I felt changes day by day, and as of month 6 now, I think I can say that only swelling remains. The swelling period after double jaw surgery really differs from person to person, but cases like mine, where swelling goes down late, do exist, so I think steady walking and waiting are the answer.
