1. Natural nose: Very low nasal bridge, and near the glabella, when I touched it, there was almost no bone.. + both nasal bones were on the wide side + the nasal tip drooped, so from the side it looked pressed down + the nostrils were slightly large and flared (overall my nose was small, and because my skin was thin, tiny blood vessels on the bridge looked bluish)
2.. First surgery: Silicone on the nasal bridge + very slight hump shaving + osteotomy of the bones on both sides + I heard they placed a septal cartilage strut at the nasal tip deeply from the philtrum area, and overlaid ear cartilage as a shield graft(?) on the columella area and nasal tip.
3. Reason for choosing removal (after 6 and a half months post-op): At the time of my first surgery, I decided on rhinoplasty because I had a round image and wanted to look more mature. My nasal bridge was also very low, but my complexes were that my nasal tip drooped and both nasal bones looked wide, so I always edited them in Photoshop.
But after surgery, my overall vibe became more mature and refined, and if I only looked at the nose, it was very pretty, but on my face it looked too artificial. The columella was also brought down a lot and the nasal tip was raised a lot, so it looked very unnatural when I smiled. I also didn’t like the aesthetic aspect, but I gradually developed tenderness from the silicone pressing on the nasal bridge, and every time my nasal tip occasionally turned red, I would stare at only my nose in the mirror all day and worry so much that it interfered with daily life. That psychological anxiety was really difficult.
So I thought about getting it removed at the hospital where I had it done, but then I came into this community, searched, and thought that even if I were removing it, it would be better to research well and get it done at a hospital with relatively more removal experience, so I booked consultations and made a reservation!
4. Current day 1 after removal: My nasal tip has become much rounder, and since the silicone that had been between my eyebrows is gone, my impression looks softer, so right now I’m very satisfied. It was done with a closed approach, so it isn’t as swollen as the first surgery, and I’m also happy that there’s no splint or taping. It has only been 1 day, so I’ll have to watch it more to know, but they said that compared with the removal nose photos, the nasal bridge/glabella area will get lower as the swelling goes down, and the sides of the nose will become a bit slimmer! Because I had osteotomies before, I was so worried that the bridge would be ground down and look broad, but the director said he would take care of that part and shave it carefully, so I went onto the operating table feeling reassured..! And for the nasal tip, my original nose already looked spread out and the tip was very pressed down, so because I wanted to improve that area, I decided: let’s leave the strut! During surgery, after taking out the silicone, they said the nose lifted slightly, but it wasn’t contracture; they said it was lifted because the nasal tip was too high compared with the bridge! So they removed all the ear cartilage from the nasal tip, lowered the height of the septal cartilage strut, and repositioned the alar cartilage to bring it down as much as possible! After surgery, they showed me surgical photos and explained, so it was really fascinating and reassuring! About the long columellar strut I was worried about, they said they removed the ear cartilage that had been overlaid there and trimmed it slightly, so it appears to have gone in a bit. As for the pinched-looking nose (if you look at the removed silicone photo, they said the thicker part had been placed toward the nasal tip. That’s why it looked more pinched), the line cannot disappear completely, but since it looked more pinched because the nose had been narrowed and raised, they said they would slightly improve it while releasing the alar cartilage!
It’s still day 1, so I’m worried about the contraction phase and there’s swelling, so I wonder how the shape will change again, but still, I feel so, so good..
