Before before after after<Pre-surgery concerns> When I was young, I went to a dental clinic and such, but I was told I was a two-jaw surgery case, so I never even started orthodontic treatment in the first place. At the dental clinic, they recommended two-jaw surgery later after my jaw growth stopped. But actually, my jaw wasn’t protruding that much and it was more on the pointed side, so my parents were fiercely opposed, and I only kept it as a wish in my heart.
<Reason I chose the hospital> I visited Y Oral because they seemed to be the most famous on YouTube and had a lot of experience, and the biggest advantage was that they also had a dental clinic. The consultant selectively told me only the things I wanted to hear, such as being able to do post-surgery orthodontics with Invisalign and other options that other hospitals didn’t recommend, and encouraged me to go through with surgery, so I suddenly decided right there that day. In the end, I thought it was a matter of time.
<Two-jaw surgery, 2 types of facial contouring (square jaw, chin) recovery process> On the first day, I was nervous going into the operating room because it was my first time under general anesthesia, but the anesthesia took effect instantly, so it was easier than sedation anesthesia. When I woke up, they told me to take deep breaths, so I worked hard on deep breathing. Breathing was a bit difficult and my mouth was so dry that it was painful, but it wasn’t unbearable, which was surprising. I had a urinary catheter in and couldn’t move, so I was literally one with the bed. The hardest part was having to stay awake, and the pain was like the throbbing from having wisdom teeth extracted on both sides, so it wasn’t that painful. On the first day, I only focused on breathing, and it’s possible to at least let people around you know you survived. It wasn’t to the point where I could look at my phone or watch videos; my mouth wasn’t just dry, it was burning, and the first day passed with me mentally toughing it out while unable to move.
Throughout the hospitalization, there was a call bell so the nurse could come, and I hadn’t prepared anything like a donut cushion, mirror, or humidifier, but the hospital had everything ready, which was good. The hospital room was also large, so it felt less stuffy, and choosing a big hospital with good facilities was really nice. From the second day, I could put New Care in a sauce bottle and drink it, but I couldn’t even drink a quarter of it.. Once the urinary catheter was removed and I could move, it was completely comfortable~~ Only one day had passed, but my body felt refreshed They also removed the drainage tube, and since people kept saying it hurt a lot, I was scared and nervous, but it was tolerable, so I was like, huh? Maybe because they have many patients, it does seem true that they do it quickly and without much pain. Maybe because the facilities were good, I slept on and off but still slept pretty well and was discharged from the hospital. Good good. And it was also a plus that there was a kimbap** place right on the first floor where guardians could eat. It’s such a hassle otherwise bbb
On the first day after discharge, the tooth pain was really severe because of the wafer. A feeling like having cavities + a whole can of tuna horribly stuck between all my teeth. Since that lasted all day, I got really exhausted.. and exhausted again.. Two-jaw surgery is more exhausting than painful. You can’t eat and it hurts.. (not to the point of being unbearable) But it hurt so much I couldn’t sleep, so instead of going on day 7, I visited on day 6 and had the wafer adjusted again, and it was much better. If it hurts, visit and get the wafer adjusted..) I was too far away and thought there wouldn’t be much change even if I visited, so I held out until the appointment.)
After my first visit at one week, walking for more than 30 minutes was okay, and from then on I ate castella and porridge. Then I got energy back, and the only hard thing seemed to be nasal congestion. As expected, time is the medicine! The tooth pain had hurt all day, but it decreased a lot.
On the day my stitches were removed in week 2, I was nervous because people said it hurt so, so much, but this was also bearable. I did it without gargle anesthesia, and I didn’t even tear up.. I’m truly the weakest with pain and insanely easily scared, but honestly, this level of pain felt like something an adult should be able to endure.. Other people make such a fuss that I thought it was a prank.. I think the medical staff are very skilled.. The final part has a stinging pain I had never experienced before, but it’s not enough to make you cry. They finish it very quickly, so I think you just need to endure about 2 minutes.
In week 2, I walked for two hours at a time and had no trouble with daily life. I could fit two fingers in my mouth, so I could eat a lot of regular food like scorched rice and ramen, so my stamina was okay. My facial swelling was plateauing, but I think a lot of sensation had returned, and after removing the stitches, smiling became more comfortable, which was nice. I went back to work and drove on day 17, and it was easy.

<Week 4 after two-jaw surgery, orthodontic treatment started> I started orthodontic treatment and my teeth hurt so much Orthodontic treatment is hundreds of times harder than two-jaw surgery.. I can’t eat anything, and I probably won’t be able to make plans well for two years.. But I definitely hear a lot that my face got smaller because my jaw became shorter! Before, I was very stressed because my jaw made sounds, my jaw looked long in photos, and my front teeth were wearing down because of malocclusion, but now I don’t have those worries so it’s good. Because two-jaw surgery is an important surgery, I searched a lot and looked into it carefully, and Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery seemed to operate safely. Quite a bit of time has passed, but I don’t regret it. On day 1 after two-jaw surgery, there wasn’t much pain except my throat felt scratchy, and after a month, I felt like I could quickly return to daily life. But until week 1, the swelling was at its peak.. It’s already been 1 month, and now eating seems okay except for meat. A lot of the two-jaw surgery swelling has gone down, and although my pronunciation is still a little awkward, I think it will return with time! I’m just waiting for the day I go to the hospital soon!!
<Month 2> Now I eat a lot of what I want, and there’s no major issue with eating! The swelling is going down very slowly, so it’s slower than I expected There’s no pain from orthodontics, but making plans and going out to have fun seems like it will be very inconvenient for the year I’m doing orthodontics! Fortunately, I work alone, so there aren’t many times I have to meet people, and there’s no major inconvenience. My teeth feel neater than before, and I feel like my gums have become weaker. Except for two hours a day, I’m wearing the aligners, so I’m happy that the orthodontic treatment is progressing faster than expected~! When I compare my face before surgery, I can feel it has improved a lot, so I’m very happy. I hope I can manage the swelling well, recover quickly, and finish without side effects!
