I had consultations at two or three places in Seoul, then moved to a regional area, and COVID broke out, so I went ahead with LASEK surgery in Gwangju. (January 2022)
At the time, I already had a history of getting consultations in Seoul, and I thought it would be meaningless to go around to lots of places in Gwangju. The surgery had been delayed by almost a year, so I wanted to get it done quickly, and I only went to one place in Gwangju.
I think it was also because it was a place where many of my coworkers had gotten it done.
When I went for the consultation, in Seoul they said only LASEK was possible and that revision surgery would not be possible, but here they said SMILE LASIK was also possible, and in the case of LASEK, one revision surgery would be possible, so after thinking it over, I chose LASEK.
When I had my eye condition examined during the consultation, the items checked were a little different from Seoul. I definitely felt that Seoul examined things more thoroughly. In Seoul, I had laser treatment because of a risk of retinal detachment, and they checked that too and said we should do follow-up examinations every 6 months.
After the surgery, strangely, I did not have any pain at all.. Then after some time passed (more than a month), there were about 2 times when one eye hurt so much that I woke up suddenly while sleeping, and about 2 times when it hurt and tears kept coming out. Other than that, it really did not hurt at all.
Since it was LASEK, I had the protective contact lens removed after 7 days, and removing the lens at that time hurt.. Later I found out that it is okay if they moisten it with artificial tears before removing it..? I was disappointed that the hospital did not give any guidance about that..
For aftercare, instructions come by text message, and I have to make sure to keep track of it myself. They do not ask why I have not come in, and if I do not go, they just pass over it, so make sure you go!
Now, since then, a little astigmatism has come back, but I think this is due to my inadequate management + my original eye condition.
My vision currently comes out around 1.2 when both eyes are open, and one eye has dropped to around 1.0, but since the target at the time and the post-surgery result were also around 1.2, I am satisfied~!
